Well I'm not happy at all came home from shopping after leaving Rocky for 2 hours to find he had destroyed his bed while in hhis cage. He as always had his bed and never done this, he also as destroyed all his toys too. Why has he done this??
Re: 7 month old Ah bless him. Sounds like he could be a bored teenager. Did he have some exercise before he was crated? Or maybe he could just be having bother with his teeth. My Meg got more chewy at this age but only when left? She thought her kennel tasted very nice ! She has stopped now so it only was a phase that lasted from 6-8 months ish
Re: 7 month old Early teenage rebellion perhaps? We had one yesterday too, at 7 months Holly decided the door looked rather tasty and there is now a nice chunk out of it. First thing she has ever destroyed so bit of a shock to us. She's on 'quiet time' following her spaying op so we've put it down to pent up energy/general bit of naughtiness.
Re: 7 month old Took Rocky on a good run off his lead he loved it, playing ball and running through the trees he was worn out, next day took him a long walk before we went shopping, came back he had trashed and shredded the insides of his new bed and had to throw away. Really getting to me now in every other way he is pretty good :-[
Re: 7 month old Hate to say this, but my last Lab was about 2 before he stopped destructive chewing. Molly, at 14 months, still chews chair legs and skirting boards even when I'm there (of course I stop her as soon as I become aware of it) and she's very rarely left alone. I'm just resigned to it.
Re: 7 month old Sorry that you're now minus a dog bed! How long has he been left previously? Was two hours unusually long for him? What approach have you used to get him used to being left in the crate? Is he left in the crate with anything nice to eat, or just toys? Usually I'd say that boredom or anxiety are the things that lead dogs to go on a destruction spree.
Re: 7 month old Ours started this, so we took the good bed out and replaced it with a single quilt and a dog quilt in the too and they've been fine since. They go mad for tickets on anything which I think is what starts them off, so I cut them off things now. Also, try a couple of squirts of bitter apple spray, they don't like that! Lou x
Re: 7 month old Holly has never been much of a chewer, which is a relief. Her predecessor, Cocoa, managed to destroy the kitchen lino and two walking boots in her first year.
