Our eight-year old female lab never had an offensive odor until we returned from a trip recently to find she had a strong rank odor that seems to be coming from her upper back. Her hair in that area has recently become curly as well. Her food has not been changed for many years. She has been swimming regularly in the river since April, like every year. She has been taking Metacam for a foot injury since February. She has been fed omega 3 fatty acid pills for many years. Her weight and health are excellent.
Anybody have a suggestion of what could cause such an abrupt change?

    Thanks, Mike

    Hi Mike,

    Welcome to the forum :)

Since Labs can be somewhat prone to skin problems, my first thought was perhaps a fungal or bacterial skin infection? I'd definitely ask a vet to rule out any medical cause first.

Good luck - let us know how she gets on!
