Hi new here We picked up our new adorable bitch pup last week. She came with a bag of royal canin and she was great at eating that. Asked vet about alternative as i think its really pricy the vet suggested wainwright so we bought some. Lamb and rice and salmon and rice Started trying to weam onto it by mixing it with the royal canin and the lamb and rice she wouldn't seem to touch the lamb and rice and seemed to start eating less royal canin. Tried going back to all royal canin but she still not eating it as well as when we first got her. Do you think i have a problem or should I pursue with trying to weam and try the salmon wainwright Thanks
Hi and welcome. Food is a complicated issue for us humans. It deoends on your budget and what the best is that your money can buy. My girl had major issues with her tummy when she was little and we tried lots of different foods. At 3, she is on raw BARF in the morning and Wainwrights kibble with some fish in the evening. Have you tried making it a bit soggy by soaking it in a bit of water? Sometimes that can help as it makes the smell come out and is easier to eat. What is your pups name?
Hi there and welcome to the forum! Its a bit of a major upheaval going to a new home. Lots of changes. May be worth giving it a week or two and trying again? Give your pup time to settle? Royal Canin is a pretty good food. Bear in mind the more expensive foods you generally feed a little less (assuming good quality is more expensive!) so sometimes although they seem more expensive, they may not be as bad as you think. Feeding the best you can afford is a good rule of thumb. jac
Hi thanks for the advice Her name is bex Never had a pup before and ive always wanted a Labrador plus with one my sons having a muscle wasting condition and will inevitably end up in a wheelchair were hoping that bex will be his life long companion. She seemed to eat a bit better last night after I changed her bowl to a slow feeder type and it seemed she enjoyed the challenge of getting the kibble out of it she was jumping on it dragging it around and all sorts. Got vet visit Wednesday for first half of second injection so if still issue with feeding il ask the vet. Now the mission of trying to stop her chewing my feet and shoes.
Hi and welcome to the forum to you and Bex from me and my 14 month old boy Bailey. Nothing to add about food - my boy is fed raw in the mornings and Taste of the Wild kibble in the evenings, but he does go through phases of not eating either - he's also never been like a typical lab with eating - he's a grazer and can sometimes take pretty much all day to eat his breakfast! Frustrating some days, lab scoffer others! I think he is holding out for some human food then realises he's not getting any so goes and eats what's on offer! Good luck with the redirection of favourite biting toys - Bailey much preferred my hands and arms to his chew toys! Plenty of advice on here about how to stop/redirect biting crocopups! Just remember, as with all things dog related, consistency and patience are the keys!
