Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and wishes. The support on here helps so much when times are difficult. Well we've been to the vets and the vet is of the opinion that it is Juno's ED that is causing the limp, probably due to some inflammation around the joint; unfortunately the only way to know for sure would be through x-rays which is a route neither of is want to go down unless 100% necessary. So the advice is for restricted exercise for at least 7 days and preferably only give a Metacam if Juno is very stiff. Hopefully it will settle over the next few days - so looks as if it's back to the walks we were doing around 4 months ago Sometimes though it never seems to rain but it pours - while doing the health check the vet discovered that Juno's skin infection from July has flared again the last day or so . Back to antibiotics and bathing every couple of days with the special shampoo. The bathing aspect is made worse in that my OH has just gone back to the UK for 8 days so am going to have to try and manage it by myself. I've just managed to bath her infected area in the kitchen by using a bowl, towel, flannel and some treats as I couldn't face trying the bath today, I'll work upto that for Thursday . After all the fun of visiting the vet and being bathed in the kitchen Juno is now crashed out in her bed in the living room with me
MaccieD oh no, I'm really so sorry to read this. It's such a struggle isn't it. I was hoping you'd moved to the UK by now as I'd have driven over to see you. Sending massive hugs and Labrador licks from Mabel. Virtual hugs xxx
Oh dear, that's such a blow for you. Hope the restricted exercise does the trick. If the skin shampoo is something like Malaseb, I used this on my old lab using just a bucket and sponge and it worked fine.
So sorry to hear about poor Juno - seems so unfair for such a young lab to have to suffer Good luck with the bathing. I hope the infection clears up quickly!
Pilatelover It has been a bit of a blow seeing Juno limping , but once she is out and walking the limp disappears and she seems to move quite freely - a case of mind over matter so she gets her walks I think. I've known since her diagnosis that we would have an ongoing battle against limping and Osteoarthritis due to the malformation of the bones within her right elbow, I had just been hoping that we would have a longer period of "normal" life before experiencing a relapse. We will get through this and enjoy funning and playing again -it will just be in a few weeks time. Bless you for wanting to come visit, at the rate the move to uk is going it would be easier for you to come visit me with Mabel. My husband has to the uk today to view some more properties on Friday and Saturday as our vendors keep making offers on properties then withdrawing! Now looking more to North Lincolnshire so watch this space - told him not to come home unless he's bought a house
Joy I used a bowl this afternoon with a flannel but am planning to try to get her in the bath on Thursday as I'm not totally convinced I managed to rinse all the shampoo off - have even considered her paddling pool, but that's a lot of water to fill and then to try and empty
MaccieD remember one day at a time. The fun times will come back. With Mabel my mantra has become its not what she can't do but what she can do. Fingers crossed OH finds a new home soon, otherwise you may be home alone for a while. Xx
Oh that is downright rotten. Sorry to hear about all of this.....one hurdle on its own would have been enough. Wish we could help x
My heart goes out to you both. I hope and pray it's a short flare-up and she's feeling better soon. I know it's so hard for you to see her in pain. How are her spirits? Myles still gets his intermittent pano limp, but mostly seems happy and goofy even though he must be in pain. Hoping the same for Juno.
Oh dear, sorry to hear you are battling the skin infection too. Hope it clears without too much fuss and bother. You have lots going on there what with preparing to move! I hope it ALL settles down soon and You can just concentrate on ordinary life!
Wow, you are going through a tough time at the moment. I have no advice, just come and have a rant on here whenever you need to x
I'm sorry that you are havng such a hard time with your pup, she really is a lovely girl. Its so stressful when they are ill. I have a dog with a illness which i have to manage and I can understand how upsetting it is for you. I don't bath my dogs I use a bucket and sponge and the wash it all off with a watering can. the spout makes it very easy to get to bellies and wash all shampoo out. my dogs love it and sometimes get me to fill up the watering can so I can just splash em with it. I have limited mobility and so would find it hard and risky lifting my dog in and out of a bath and filling it so I do have to find different ways of doing things alot of the time, so it sounds a bit strange but is does work. My neighbour watched me wash all 3 labs like this one after another and couldn't believe how easy it was and how happy they were for me to do it. She tried it with her dog and he liked it too. S
Now you've all gone and made me cry with all your kind thoughts, but thank you all for your kind thoughts and support, it really does make such a difference . Juno seems to be moving more easily this morning and is sitting look at me as it's morning walk time, and as Pilatelover says, one day at a time. Mylestogo , Juno seems absolutely fine in herself but then she is so laid back it seems nothing much throws her. drjs@5 , you all help just by posting comments and offering support and best wishes. So a very big thank you from me and Juno xx
