I'm training using the book "Train Your Dog Like A Pro" . We're up to "Sit Stay". The goal is have the dog sit , pay for position, immediately hold a treat in front of the nose for one second ( no cues), if the dog does not move pay for position. You have to do five correct in a row before moving on. He had no problem doing the one second. When we moved on to three seconds he just wouldn't do it. We've been on it for a week. So I said heck with it and tried five seconds and he he did five in a row twice. Go figure !! I know I cheated a bit. You're not supposed to skip steps. I'm just so proud of this dog.
Hi @Jade Not cheating. Not at all. Sometimes one has to change the program to suit the dog. They are individuals. And they don't read these books.
