    Hi everyone

Hello from Maddie (10 yr old Choc) and myself. We're new to the forum, the info on here is great and really helpful as we have a new addition coming to our furry family soon. Winnie is a 3 week old black lab puppy and will be joining us when she is 10 weeks old. Apart from Maddie and the cats we are all very excited and going to meet Winnie for the first time on Sunday.

Maddie is a true 'miracle' dog as described by our vet, she's got loads of things wrong with her but keeps beating the odds with a wagging tale and a smiley face. She fills our life with happiness everyday, I know you guys know exactly what I'm talking about!

So if you have any top tips about introducing a puppy to an older dog then I'd be grateful. I'm guessing supervision and timeout are key.

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Hello and welcome to the forum from me and my two, Willow and Shadow, who are not too far off 2 years old now (argh, where does the time go, and why aren't they perfectly trained by now?!).

Is that Maddie in your avatar? We'd love to see more pictures, plus any you may have of little Winnie :)

I've never introduced a puppy to an older dog, but I'm sure the experienced folk will be along soon. From what I've read on here, you need to make sure your older dog has the ability to get herself away from the puppy when it all gets too much for her. Other than that.... well, I'll leave it to the people who have been through it already :)

Hi and welcome from me and my two.

We always introduce our dogs to a new pup in the garden with loads of supervision and leads at the ready. Don't do as we did last time.... bought a stairgate to go across the kitchen door to keep pup in and let the older dog escape for some peace, pup was so small he walked straight between the bars!

Exciting times ahead for you, bet you can't wait! :)

@snowbunny yes that's Maddie in the avatar. I'm hoping to take some pictures of Winnie when we meet her on Sunday. I know it's really important to ensure Maddie has some downtime, I'm a little worried as the puppy grows and becomes more boisterous as Maddie is fully arthritic. She is used to a puppy at her day care and if that is anything to go by she'll put the puppy in her place very quickly!

@mandyb I'm so excited!! We really can't wait, I know the puppy reality of handwork, broken sleep and cleaning up will soon hit.
