There's no such thing, I guess we all bring our past experiences to bear in our relationships with whatever species. about boarding school. As a matter of interest, where was the sanatorium your mother was in? My current home formed part of a sanatorium between the wars.
@selina27 it was in Cranham in the Cotswolds. It would have been interesting if it had been your current home.
It would be lovely if we lived closer to you Stacia x If you want another Labrador go for it Stacia as you have so much to give, experience, gundog training and lots of love. What's not good about that? xx
I hope the right one might drop into my lap one day Bit difficult with OH at moment, he has heart failure and his memory is not good.
Oh Stacia, I was a day girl at a boarding school, and that in itself has been enough to stick with me for life, so I do understand where you're coming from. However, thinking back on it, what used to trouble me so much was where and how the boarders were shown love. I went home every evening and there was love in abundance. Not over the top or showy, but without doubt there. I believe it can be there in that very solid, safe way for dogs too, and I'm convinced that they can feel it. P.S. I don't believe there's such a thing as 'too soft', it just means you're kind, caring and thoughtful. I have been accused of being 'too soft', I always say 'No, tough as old boots'
Also just to add on to what I've already rambled on about, as a nurse I managed a Memory Service for several years before I retired. My lovely lovely Mum , who was so bright, kind, funny and clever developed memory problems in her early sixties. Just saying I feel where you're coming from. Sending love and wags from me and little Joy.
Thank you @Candy, @Cath and @drjs@5 for your supportive words. Rourke is the only thing that keeps me sane at the moment and I try to stay bright for him as he gets worried when the atmosphere isn't good. By the was @Candy, there was absolutely no love at the boarding school run by nuns, I wrote a letter to my Mother saying how unhappy I was and they wouldn't let me send it but re-write it to say I was happy. I also had to spend the school holidays there. In the end I planned how to get expelled, but my little sister was ill and had to leave, so we went to live with two ladies on the wilds of Cranham Common in the Cotswolds.
