The training club I joined a few months ago (the one were the classes didn't suit) does offer gundog training classes on a Thursday morning, and having contacted the lady who runs them, Cassie and I went along for an assessment this morning, and I'm pleased to say it went well. Of course it was just as much for me to assess the trainer and methods used! She seems very nice and is obviously experienced in both the shooting field and helping people have fun with their gundogs, so that was good. It's quite ok to use whatever equipment i.e flat collar or slip lead suits, and rewards etc, so that's another plus. She loved Cassie (well she could hardly say if she didn't) and thinks I've done well with her so far, we did practice recall(both verbal and whistle) and sit/wait, off lead heel (I need to practice) all in a little park in an urban setting. And Cassie loves town! So I was happy with her, I must say. All that was missing was a bit more verve on the retrieve! BUT, this lady did say that it's not unknown for bitches to lose interest sometimes for a couple of weeks each side her season, it would be lovely to regain the enthusiasm she showed back in August/September. Anyway, I am looking forward to popping along this Thursday and seeing how we get on.
Sounds like you enjoyed the training and the trainer sounds very accommodating. Good luck on Thursday x
Oh! Looking forward to hearing all about Thursday! I wouldn't worry too much about the retrieving. Just make it fun! Bramble has never been enthusiastic about balls or short retrieves. She loves complex marks, memories and where she has to use her nose and hunt Cassie might also not be used to other people throwing retrieves for her.
