He's coming on so well! As said up there, lovely for something positive. if you've noticed, your posts (aside trainers) are becoming more and more positive. how lovely for all this hard work to be paying off.

He is but still keeping everything firmly crossed as we worry that he will take off and all our hard work will have been for nothing  Thank you x :)

Just a tiny update, Charlie is getting between 10 - 20 ish minutes off lead every day and is staying behind David and recalling well verbally and to the whistle :D Practising Stop whistle etc. along the way. Charlie can stop at the stile wait for us to climb over and go to the other side of the paddock and recalls brilliantly, there is a massive field behind him which he could run off into but he chooses not to :D so getting there one tiny step at a time  Still keeping everything firmly crossed though ::) x

Oh Helen I'm the same I don't like to admit we might have 'cracked it' just incase. ;D

The fact charlie had a whole field behind him that he could've had a whale of a time in but chose to wait for your recall is absolutely fantastic. ;D ;D ;D

I'll say it even if you won't Charlie is fast becoming a 'normal' dog. ;) ;D ;D

It's a pleasure to be able to say it for you Helen. You should be very proud of him but keep it a secret if you want. ;)

    Re: A Little Off Lead

As most of you will know Charlie has been having some off lead time which is going really well still keeping everything crossed ::) so far so good, he is behaving. When we go into the field he does a mad burn off of energy runs up the tractor tracks in the crop back down to us and repeats, so about 3 ish minutes in total as he is really fast  then he stays close and a little way on popped back on lead. If it's ok to let him off again we do and so on. His recall is pretty good and we reinforce the whistle on his way back to us.

Does this sound acceptable to let him do this as we are thinking this is about as good as we are going to get with Charlie? Of course there will always be the worry of him becoming over confident again and pushing the boundaries, but lots of dogs do that not just Charlie. He seems much happier to have some freedom and is clearly watching out for us now which we didn't have before :D

I would appreciate your thoughts and advice.

    Thanks xxx

Helen, this sounds brilliant to me , how lovely, for you all, enjoy it and try not to worry about what may or may not happen . I think with rescues , its about taking it as far as we can and then managing what we have , and it seems you are managing just fine and dandy :)
