    Hi.

Wuki is an 8 weeks old Yellow Lab. He's playful, adventurous, bites a lot (specially the noisy kids and his owners feet), loves to eat grass from the garden, and save a little bit of pee to mark every new part of the house he gets to know...

He's very kind and almost doesn't bark at night, even though everything is so new (this is just his third night with us).

I'm a big science fiction fan, and though calling him Spock was only logical, after family voting and deliberation we found Chewbaka is the best furry sidekick in sci-fi history. Wookies are loyal, strong warriors, adventurous, intelligent, friendly...

    Just like Wuki!

    Nice introduction... and nice name...

It is funny to know the history of each dog name... nowadays Dana came from a family's assably meeting... where my dauthers had a "quality vote", but my old lady who crossed rainbow bridge was "Garbi", an old Basque word for "clean"... but... some days after we should have choosen some word meaning... "dirty" :cwl:

    Welcome both.

    Pedrolo.

    Thank you all!

Another day and Wuki is going great. He seems calmer, though potty time is still problematic... Well, i guess it's only day 4, so...

Anyway, biting is still a problem and i started using a harness when he's with my kids, they are 5 and 9, but the boy is too childish and can't manage the happiness of having a dog his own, so he laughs and screams near Wuki (and worse of all, he runs in front of him), who wants to play but very nervously. The harness also allows me to control him when he chased them to the stairs (which i'm trying to avoid at all costs), and block him when he arrives the plants (we have a small back garden, with at least 2 toxic plants for dogs - we can't risk it but i'd like to teach him stay clear from danger).

But man... he bites a lot. If he's in my lap, he gets calm and almost only kisses, but playing and stuff... and it really hurts!

Well, again thank you all for your kind comments, and worm welcome!

    Cheers, MC and Wuki!

Welcome here! Being a big Star Wars fan I love the name too.

Good idea for the harness to help control Wuki in the house. A short house line might help too, but only if you convince the kids to only let you use it. Otherwise I could imagine the pup being hauled around by the kids, which would not be helpful. You are not alone on the biting problem...just a quick look at our puppy boards and you will find plenty of others with "crocopups" as we affectionately call them around here.

Welcome Wuki and MC! What a cute beastie and name! Oh those awful bitey times. There were days I looked like I been drug through a cactus patch. Then suddenly one day...it just stopped. Just like so many folks on here told me it would! Hang in there!

    Thanks Lisa.

Well, i think i need to get another harness, Wuki gets out of it easily. I bought a size M and he manages to get loose. I really should have got the S... He's smart though. He quickly found he could get out of it by moving backwards!!!

Hi and welcome from me and nearly 3 year old girl, Harley. When we got Harley my nephew was 4 and visits lots. We taught him to stand still like a tree with arms crossed if she got bitey/jumpy and to turn away from her until she sat. I also involved him in training her the basics like sit, paw, wait, catch - he thrived on teaching her new things and really helped her be calmer around children.
Harley now often comes to work with me as I work with children with additional needs / behavioural issues and they all love her.

Naya, great story. I would like to involve my kids too, great idea about standing still and crossing the arms.

    Thanks for the ideas!
