Holy moly, are you sure he's not a cat? Because that's one life gone! I'm so glad to hear that he's ok, I cannot believe that he came through a fall like that unscathed. There are bound to be some bruises but I'm amazed that he didn't break anything.
Makes me glad that both of our dogs are a little skittish about heights. They both seem to understand how high a bank or wall they can jump down comfortably and are quite cautious. There is a State Park on the Crooked River Canyon in Oregon that has signs specifically forbidding dogs, even on leash to get near the edge of the canyon. It is 500 ft deep and almost straight down. There are a lot of prairie dogs around the area, and apparently some dogs have gone into the canyon while running around or chasing the prairie dogs.
Heart stopping! So glad he's okay. Snowie's brother jumped off the first-floor balcony when he was about 6 months old. No damage either. Snowie had no fear of heights when he was a puppy. He would just go full pelt down a ravine to the shallow river below. My heart has had its fair share of stopping. But age has brought sense - thankfully!! - and on our walk in the forest this past weekend, Snowie wanted to get down to the river. Went to the edge of the ravine, peered down, and I said "No" and he listened! He waited till we got to the safe access point. They do grow up! Arnie might need some extra rest for a few days to recover. And you'll probably need a few stiff drinks!
Heavens above ,Arnie,you lucky boy! You must have had the biggest fright ever and cleared the 2 km run in record time! No wonder your wife was upset later, probably delayed shock at what could have happened.Anyway,lucky it didn't and Arnie has another chapter to add to the story of his life...but not one to be repeated again...EVER! X
I would be with your wife having a breakdown! He's a lucky,lucky pup. So glad he's ok! They give us gray hair these dogs- wouldn't be without them though.
Thank you all. He's sitting in the car next to me ATM picking the wife up from work. Still can't believe how lucky this little guy is. It's like nothing has happened. He's so resilient. Nothing ever fazes him
This is the only time I have used a retracting lead on Benson, whilst walking a coastal path in Cornwall, most was OK..but for some of it I was a bit nervous! Just as well as found out later that dogs had sadly lost their lives there in the previous weeks. We have one of these, we rarely use it, however in unfamiliar environments , they can work well. .
