Hi Milo has had a bilatral elbow arthroscopy and ulna osteotomy. We went back to the vet 17 days ago for his 8 week check and xrays. The vet was very pleased with his elbows and said he can have as many lead walks as we like and 5 mins off lead one week 10 mins 2nd week building up slowly. But having taken him out for about 3 walks and let him off once for not even 5 mins and he is limping badly. Does anyone have to same thing. Its so hard as he is getting fed up now.

Hi Sharon, already responded to your message on how I managed Juno with the advise from my orthopaedic surgeon. If little Milo is limping reduce his walks down, after surgery Juno was on 3 x 3 minutes walks per day, all on lead. When we had a limping flare while rehabilitating I dropped to a couple of walks of around 10 minutes each, both on lead. Caution is your friend. if the limp doesn't clear in a couple of days you might need to go and see the vet again, just to make sure that there isn't another cause. Unfortunately where a puppy or dog starts limping the advice is restrict exercise and if it doesn't clear within a few days seek veterinary advice

To help keep Milo amused, and yourself sane, have a look at this thread as it may give some ideas of activities to do with him to try and tire his furry brain

@sharon 6 Did the vet suggest how to rest him and then increase Milo's exercise?

Sorry I haven't responded. Been having connection problems off and once a week but today has been a nightmare. Now waiting for an engineer visit next week to sort out the problem :(

Your vets advice sounds a little vague - rest until he's better and then lead walks. It's well worth discussing with the therapists when you go for hydro and see what their advice is. I guess in the meantime I would go for rest meaning like just after surgery so pretty much lily rips outside for toilet and a quick lead walk round for a sniff. How is Milo? Is his limp any better?
