NIGHTMARE. This morning, after his walk on the Common Charlie had a red, raw spot on his leg - mid way between his paw and stifle, at the front. We had a vet appointment today anyway, for Betsy's vaccs and Charlie's cartrophen... Vet said it looked like a scrape. He gave me some cream for it, and said to keep a close eye on it. But he said it really did just look like a scrape.... I walk Charlie in an area where there is a spring - it really is a genuine spring, people come from miles (eg Tooting, Stretham ) to fill up bottles. So I make sure Charlie is washed in the water often, also keeps him cool, and he goes in his paddling pool again when he gets back. Still, so worrying. Six dogs have died now. We still don't know for sure it's on the Common though as all the dogs also walked elsewhere.
Oh my, how scary for you. EVERYTHING crossed your vet is right. I know you'll be keeping an eagle eye on it. Worry worry worry!
Oh that is definitely not what you need The good thing is - if it's a scrape (don't worry, it's just a scrape) it'll start healing up pretty soon and then you'll know it's fine.
I've just put some cream on it and put him to bed. After standing in the rain for 10 minutes while Betsy didn't have a pee. I'm on the night shift again... It looks fine. No longer red. It looks like a scrape....thankfully.
THANK HEAVEN it is healing up, my heart stopped when I read your earlier post and I feel quite emotional.
Fab news! Everything crossed here! A while ago Riley had a sore on his pad. I took him in too as he goes to the New Forest where there have been several cases. They were confident it was just abrasion too and they were right. I'm sure they are for Charlie too. Always, always, always better safe than sorry though. Vet trip is a given for us with any lesions.
The vet wasn't all that comforting though - he said: well it looks like a scrape, it's a bit weepy so we'll put something on it. I asked could it be Alabama Rot and he said: who knows? there isn't a test I can do, it looks like a scrape, bring him straight back if it doesn't look better in the morning. Still, agree, would always get it checked out.
"Who knows"????? That's not what you want to hear from a vet! You want to hear 'Almost certainly not, but we'll be keeping an eye on it to make sure'.
