My Furminator arrived this morning , Sam had been shedding like crazy , almost to the point of ordering back carpets Following advice , I wasn't too fervent with the gadget, but I guess I have enough hair in a carrier bag to create a whole new dog
Oh my goodness, seriously does that much come off them Kate? Its something I just don't have ,so it must be Dexter has adjusted to the climate.Sounds like it's going to save your Hoover...and you a whole lot of graft! X
Furminators certainly do the job and quick which is good when there's two to do. Bet Sam feels a lot lighter. ☺️
We are in need of a bit of winter coat today. Brrrr.... Seriously though, although Lilly sheds like mad at times, I don't think she has that double coat that does well with a furminator. Daisy rabbit on the other hand...........(had to use Lilly's zoom grrom before our trip to the vets last week )
I had such bad luck with my Furminator! It cut my dog's top coat like a razor and just looked awful. I was so disappointed after spending $50 on it. Anyway, I put it away and bought a $7 rubber rake to take out all the shedding undercoat and it works so much better. If I use it consistently while she's blowing out her undercoat, she looks glossy and her top coat is gorgeous. I just follow the rake with a stiff brushing out and she's good to go. I'm glad to hear no one else had the problems I did with the Furminator.
I have 3 and wouldn't be without one but I know some labs due to the variation in coat types have problems with them. I got a horse Rubber curry comb (it must be rubber) and it massages the under coat out and then grabs it in the hairs and works really well for one of my dogs.
I have a Furminator "type" comb. It certainly doesn't cut the hair, because when Willow isn't shedding, it gets absolutely nothing off her. I can't talk for the real Furminator, though. It's a life saver with Shadow, who seems to go from heavy shedding to ridiculously heavy shedding. We're in the market for a new vacuum at the moment, and will only consider things with "Animal" in the title
I`m very pleased Only three days since Sam was furminated, but definitely fewer dog hairs wafting around . I think its a case of erring to caution with them , I wont use it again for another couple of weeks or so, and then, only light use , its made a massive difference , his coat looks fab
Charlie has just stopped shedding. Thank goodness. I have about, what, a month before he starts growing in his winter coat? From the various reports we get about the furminator, I reckon it really must depend on the dog's coat. There is no way a furminator cuts Charlie's top coat, the hair that comes out is all undercoat (Charlie's undercoat is a distinctively different colour of brown, and there is never any top coat removed). When Charlie is in full shed, I run a furminator over his sides and back, very lightly and just a few sweeps, pretty much every day. It takes out a couple of handfuls, which go in the bin rather than on my floors. I love it.
Sam here Julie, Sams top coat remains intact , just all the undercoat here too , best purchase I`ve made in ages .
Anyone else like plucking the loose undercoat out by hand? Or perhaps I'm a bit weird? Lol. I just find it very satisfying when it comes out in large tufts and Lucan seems to like the attention too.
I love plucking bits off Milo! He just lies there and lets me do it. Trouble is if he is on the sofa with me I tend to lay it on the arm then if I'm not careful he springs up and knocks it everywhere!
Juno's just about stopped shedding - at last! I've been thinking about the Furminator for the next shed but haven't been sure which is the best version as they have so many too choose from. What size of Furminator is best for a Labrador?
