    He, he!

A slightly less cringy part of the anatomy might possibly be dried pigs' ears. Although they look a lot more like their origin than the pizzles do, so similarly are not for the squeamish. ;D

Pig's ears have a high fat content. Cows ears have less, but are rather large.

Fairly disgusting too but not quite as cringe making, calves hooves keep Flora occupied longer than most things but stink too and I dread to think what the filling consists of ....but sometimes a period of peace and quiet is called for.... :-\

Deer ears are low fat, but last Charlie about a microsecond....no good for a chew experience.

Not exactly an alternative to rawhide but this does keep us going for a while. I put some of B's kibble (or you could use anything really) into an empty milk carton (juice carton). She enjoys ripping the carton to bits and then finding the treats inside.

These are brilliant, but ridiculously expensive!

You put a tightly fitting biscuit thing in and they really do last for ages.

Oberon Edit: I tried to fix the link but couldn't but the link below goes to the same thing :)

They look like Nylabones? They are hard, anyway....

    Re: Alternative to rawhide?

No, they are not hard :) We have two of their products - not the bento ball but a fire hydrant and a round ball. They are quite soft (easily squashed with your hand, softer than a Kong) but very durable. They are designed to be stuffed with treats or you can buy the pressed liver treats that slot into the ends (the biscuits that Boogie mentiined). Those treats are fairly hard but easily wear away with chewing...these treats are like dried liver, not hard like a bone. They do last quite a long time (we timed Obi at 45 mins for the fire hydrant shape). These days we don't buy the liver inserts (expensive) but just stuff the toy. Much more challenging to unstuff than a classic Kong shape.

Have a look on their product page. There are heaps of styles of toy.

You will also see, bizarrely, that they sell a prong collar. All these great chew toys, clickers....and a nasty prong collar. I wrote to them about that, saying that I had two of their chewy toys and liked them but found it inexplicable, and disappointing, that a company that makes fun things would add a cruel device to their lineup. Anyway, just an aside.... The chewy toys are still good.

    Re: Alternative to rawhide?

I got one of these (delivered on a Sunday - I love Amazon prime :* ) and gave it to Charlie thinking it would keep him occupied while we unpacked the car (OH has just got back). He shoved it in his mouth (it was a large ball with "everlasting" chicken flavoured treat) got the treat out of the ball, put the treat between his back teeth and crunched down on it until the treat shattered, and then he crunched up and scoffed the lot. I reckon in under a minute. :( ::)

But the ball does look good in terms of stuffing things in it and freezing it, so I'll give that a go.

    Wow! That's some crunching.

I put a Markies biscuit in the Bento Ball for them and they have just taken 30 minutes to get them out. I don't buy the treats now - too expensive.
