Feeling very happy as I have found a good local gundog trainer who does formal gun dog training, but also pet gun dog training, and we can get there easily by train, twenty mins away so ideal for our non car household. Positive methods emphasised, and lots of good feedback on his website. I've had an initial chat with him and liked his approach. I'm really pleased as I have spent ages working on Brodick and his wildlife issues, and he is so much better now, but we still have a long way to go and I don't have the knowledge or experience to take things further. So, learning how to improve my control with B is the priority, but we are also going to spend some time doing general obedience work the 'gun dog way' with both of them. I think they will both really enjoy and benefit from this, they are both excellent training wise indoors or under minimal distraction, Bronze Good Citizenship was no problem, but in the 'real' world of labrador temptations, things can fall apart! Once we have a good level of general outdoor obedience, the plan is to introduce them to some more fun gun doogy stuff, which I know Cuilin will adore, and Brodick will too once we have found out what floats his boat more than wildlife chasing! He also said it will be non food reward based, and that he would help me find better ways to reward the Crew of Two...am really excited, need to get Cuillins leg better first and then its onwards and upwards for us! Feeling like a worry has been taken off my shoulders, I didnt realise how much I was fretting about young Brodick, bless him he is such a gorgeous boy and a right softie, so he will be much happier in control I reckon!
Re: and more one to one gun dog training! Hope you enjoy your lessons Debsie, the dogs will love it. ;D
Re: and more one to one gun dog training! I'm sure this is the right way to go, especially for Brodick Debsie. Good luck, and I'm sure all three of you will love it!
Re: and more one to one gun dog training! Thats good news. Where abouts is your trainer Debbie? I think Lilly and Broddick would get on well : jac
Re: and more one to one gun dog training! He's in East Lothian Jac, not far from Gullane. Which has a great beach as well so they can have a scamper after their session. if any of us have any energy left... Brodick and Lilly might form a Naughty Alliance....him and Cuillin egg each other on to badness sometimes. One of them will be off up to no good and the other can tell by the tone of my voice they are up to nonsense, so they rush off to see whats going on and if its worth joining in.... :.
Re: and more one to one gun dog training! Ah....the joy of dogs. At least with just the one you know who the culprit is! Shame Gullane is the wrong direction for me. Might check out some of the Perth stuff (if I ever think I have the time ) jac
