We are taking Arnie for his first class tomorrow. It's called basic manners so I think it will do him good. I hope we get something out of it, because I have been working with him since day one pretty much. I think he is a little past "basic" but we will see how we go. At the moment the teenager is coming out in him. I can tell he's getting more confident with each day. What I really want out of this class is impulse control. Getting him to be able to control himself around other people and dogs. Anyway. I reckon it should be fun
Hope it goes really well Working on impulse control is a great goal for a class situation. Don't expect too much at first... I teach puppy/young dog classes at our dog club and most of them are flying like kites in the first class But every single one of them gets better and better each week.
Yeah I am expecting, once I get him settled, to be told things I already know in the first two classes, but I am sure then it should start becoming beneficial
Good luck! Hopefully it's a good set-up with a good trainer and you get lots out of it. Xena's obedience class doesn't start until the beginning of next term (3 weeks 3 days, but who's counting?). I cannot wait. I want to learn all the things!
Hope it's useful. Even if the first class covers things you've already trained, it could be a good chance to practise with the distraction of other dogs around you.
Had the first class. Was way more helpful than I anticipated. Worked on his excitement and impulse control around people and dogs. He was knackered afterwards. Up n at'em again now tho. We had heaps of fun.
