I uploaded a new avatar. It is sideways. So I deleted and tried again. Still sideways. How do I get it to turn righ side up?
Longish version/reason: Computers and mobile devices are pretty smart these days, and if you take a photo with the camera (or device) turned on its side, it works this out when displaying it, and shows it the right way up for you, even though the photo file is technically oriented sideways, as the camera was. However, when you upload the picture, the computer (or device) is unable to read the information which tells it which way up to display it, so it has no choice but to display it the way up that it is saved - sideways. Solution (or TL;DR) Fix it on your computer or device by editing the photo, making a tiny adjustment or even turning the picture 90 degrees one way and then back the other and saving it again. If you do the rotation thing, you won't have done anything as far as you can see on the device (it looked the right way up to start, and still does afterwards) but by doing this, it is forced to save the file the right way up. You can then upload it and it will show correctly.
