We had a great time today at the German equivalent of Pets At Home, and at the DIY store. pops was good as gold, was very kind to a nervous little puppy, got lots of cuddles (especially at the DIY store!), and is now thoroughly enjoying her new kong and toy fox. We can do this! :D

Haha - that made me smile! Yes, indeed, Pets At Home can be a life saver for a bored dog!

Don't want to jinx things - but this morning was the first time for about three weeks that I couldn't discern a limp when Pops got up… Fingers crossed!!! :D

Thanks everyone. Looking good this morning too. We will go to the vet again tonight or tomorrow, and hopefully (fingers crossed) get the ok to slowly start exercising again.

Every cloud has a silver lining - I thought OH and I were going to have a BIG ROW about too much retrieving on walks, and in particular the dreaded tennis ball chucker. But yesterday, of his own accord, he threw it in the bin. YEEEEESSSS result! ;D

Re: Back on lead walks only

So, we went to the vets yesterday. Really good news is that she is certain it isn't anything to do with the elbow joint. No limping or pain - but a definite reluctance to let the vet manipulate her leg. She didn't mind it being stretched out, but was stiffening up when the vet tried to retract the leg (but was fine when she did that on the left side). I am not sure whether Poppy still has a problem with her leg, or whether she is worried that it is going to hurt, and so is blocking the manipulation, if you see what I mean - because she lets me move her legs around without a problem.

Anyway - we can start exercising again. :) She has been off the lead for the last two days, and is now allowed to run around, but no retrieving, no jumping, and no playing with other dogs until next week. After the weekend we can start gently reintroducing a bit of retrieving work. If she shows any stiffness or limping, then back to rest again.

I am booked in for a whole weekend of gun dog training on the 22nd and 23rd February. At the moment it isn't really looking very hopeful. The vet said IF all goes well next week, then we can take part - but no jumping. I don't know what to do. I have already told the organizers we may not be able to take part, so they are forewarned. I'd be very sorry not to do this course; but obviously don't want to risk any more injury. Sigh.

So glad Poppy is properly on the mend and it isn't anything more serious :)

The training - a dilemma :-\ but there will be plenty more opportunities if it's not the right thing. You'll know what to do for the best :)

I know you will be disappointed but When's the next course Karen....that might be an option? just considering the drop in her general fitness the restricted excercise will have had....a bit more time might benefit you so you both to get more out of the course?really glad there doesn't seem to be anything serious wrong.
Happy Valentines Day Mrs Pops from Mr Pops xxxx

Gutted. OH took her out for a walk in the snow, and this evening she is limping really, really badly. So, so upset. :'( Poor little love can hardly put any weight on the leg. :'(
