    Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum, though I have been reading like mad since getting our 19 week old puppy at 8 weeks and have learned a lot of great stuff!

Quinn has been teething the last few weeks and has all new front teeth at this point. She definitely had that iron type bad breath, but the last few days we have been noticing that her breath is much worse - garbage-like even. I have read that this could indicate more than just teething - possibly that she ate something she should not have. Is this bad breath usual or should we make a call to the vet?

    Thanks!
    Ashley

Hello and welcome to the forum.
My two had awfully irony breath when teething, but nothing more than that. I wouldn't have thought it was something she's eaten, because that doesn't tend to hang around (thankfully, considering some of the disgusting things Willow eats!). I would worry that it could be that a tooth hasn't completely come out and is infected. I'd definitely call your vet to see what they have to say.

Yes, puppies and young dogs (and older dogs if you clean their teeth!) should not have breath that smells unpleasant. My dog had a throat infection when I took him to the vet with smelly breath. Definitely something to get checked out.

Maisie had an infected baby tooth that had to be removed....the smell was like rotting tuna!

Jet's breath smelled like dead animal, rotten meat. Which I suppose it was, little bits of her gums. Oban's breath didn't stink at all when he was teething.
