Any ideas on how to get Hamilton (11 1/2 weeks) to stop barking like a mad dog when we leave him in the kennel during the day? He is usually done barking by the time we get home, but has peed in there!

Hello there - How long are you leaving him for during the day?

I leave a little before 10, and kelly gets home at 12 and he lets Hamilton out and goes for another walk and lets him out again and leaves at 1 to go back to work. Then kelly gets home at 5. Today kel said Hamilton did not bark or pee on his lunch break and at 5 the crate was clean. But he barked like crazy when I put him in there this morning, which he does every morning.

Can you give him a frozen kong with something tasty in when you put him in? Give him something to concentrate on?

I agree - put something yummy and long lasting in his crate when you go, so that you leaving is a positive, not a negative. :)

6 hours, even with a break, is a lot of time to be in the crate for such a young puppy.

You could try having a crate within a pen arrangement - so if he really needs to pee, he doesn't have to do so in his crate.

Re-doing crate training, might help too - and the pen will help while you do this. And lots and lots of kongs - feed all his food in kongs to keep him occupied while you are at work.
