Put this in pets corner, just in case someone thought it was referring to forum members.... We have a couple of bats that do a nightly buzz around our garden, which we can clearly see from our sun room as it is getting dark. The other night we noticed a bird furiously flying around in tight circles following the bats (well one of them at least). It was a smallish bird, but we thought it could have been a sparrowhawk. It was certainly predatory. Whatever it was it wasn't having bat for supper that night. Has anyone else seen this, or know it to happen?
Re: Bats..... Very interesting! I've never heard of that before - certainly a lateral thinking kind of bird My money would definitely be on the bat though.
Re: Bats..... Hmm a small falcon perhaps....don't think it was an owl. We were just intrigued to see it. Lots of predatory birds around and about here - love to see them perched on the fence posts stalking their next meal. And they do a fabulous bird display at the Deer Centre along the road from us with Whizzer the owl who has a reputation for VERY low flying over your head ;D
Re: Bats..... Hmm....interesting. We have a couple of local nature boffins - I must ask them. Thanks.
Re: Bats..... Sparrowhawks are biggish. Maybe a hobby? They are small and I think they are very manoeuvreable. Not very up on my birds of prey though. We have bats but not seen anything like this before.
Re: Bats..... Ooooo.....Haven't heard of a Hobby before - about the right size maybe, but mine looked darkish and possibly single coloured, but light wasn't good. Thanks for the suggestion
Re: Bats..... One summer my SIL had left her car windows overnight. Next day picked kids up from school and was driving along the M8. Voice from the back "Muuuum, there's a bat in the car!" Wondering if the bird is more likely a merlin than a hobby? OH says more common up here.
