Hi All, Well this week has been a great week in terms of Zulus sleeping. I only wake up once, around 1am, to take Zulu to the outside toilet, so he is stretching 3-4 hours. During the day, when im home, if he is in his crate and he needs the toilet, he lets me know, which is great. However, there have been the odd occasion when Zulu has slept through the night, but in the morning he has wet his bed. This clearly happened while he was fassssst asleep as I have been sleeping in the lounge, which is close to his crate, and if he needed the toilet, he would have let me know. With this in mind… do puppys wet their bed while they sleep? I guess babies do it… so puppy’s are the same? Cheers, Robbie
Re: Bed wetting while asleep Weeing while actually asleep is no doubt something puppies can do, but I think it's a bit unusual. It isn't something I have heard of happening anyway (but maybe I just lead a sheltered life ) It might be worth just calling the vet to ask about it in the morning. It might be totally normal so don't worry - but best to ask anyway Anyone else with puppies had this experience?
Re: Bed wetting while asleep Never happened to any of mine I`m afraid , maybe its just a once off if he was in a really deep sleep, but agree that if it happens again , have a word with the Vet in case its an infection .
Re: Bed wetting while asleep I bet he woke up, did it quietly, then went back to sleep. Is your crate small enough? If they can wee at one end and sleep at the other they will, so a divider 'till he's bigger would help solve that
Re: Bed wetting while asleep I'd think slobber patch maybe more likely! I hate to ask but.... did you sniff it?
Re: Bed wetting while asleep Katie peed once in her sleep and it turned out that she had a bladder infection.
Re: Bed wetting while asleep If the puppy definitely genuinely wet himself (i.e. emptied his bladder in his sleep) this is not normal. Eight week old puppies are not incontinent. And a bladder infection is a possibility. If it is possible that he woke at some point, and emptied himself in the crate, then as Mags says, this is likely to be because the crate is too big.
Re: Bed wetting while asleep I too would say it's more likely the pup woke in his sleep and toilets without you knowing. Incontinence in a puppy is something that definately needs checking out sooner rather than later. It could be something as simple as a urine infection or more serious such as an ectopic ureter. It you're 100% sure he didn't just wake up and wee without waking you, then I would get him to the vet.
