How horrible for you all. And even though you didn't think twice about cancelling your holiday, our free time is precious and holidays generally few and far between, so it is such bad luck. xx
    sending love to Stanley xx

Just catching up on Stanley and you. I hope the appointment comes through soon.

It’s a shame about your holiday, but you couldn’t possibly have relaxed and enjoyed it, knowing that Stanley might be unwell.

I'm so sorry Jen, you must be so worried and disappointed about your lovely holiday. I hope you can get some sort of refund so you can go another time when poor little Stanley is better

He seems a bit better today, he’s had no more sickness but there does seem to be days without then it starts again so we’re just waiting.

I’m worried I’m not feeding him enough. He’s on that hills prescription food but it says on the can for a dog Stanleys size to give them 3.5 cans a day.

Well that seems like so much food. He’s getting about 2 cans split into small meals throughout the day and nothing else, no treats ;)

Do you think that will be ok? I don’t want him hungry but it just seems like an insane amount of food. His bowl would be overflowing!

I’m glad Stanley has been well today - fingers crossed it’s the start of a proper recovery. Tinned dog food does contain a lot of moisture ( I think it’s around 80%) so I imagine that’s why they suggest feeding so much. Mind you 3 1/2 cans does sound an awful lot and of course you don’t want to overload him.

I have seen that before on the tin recomendations too. I only ever use tins mixed with kibble.
I was going to ask if he seems hungry....probably a stupid question.
Little but often would seem a good plan. Particularly if it could be acid/reflux.
    Hope he perks up x

I've just been feeding Jen on RC Sensitive, as recommended by the vet. Should have been 2.75 to 3.25 cans a day for her. In reality we managed at most about 1.25 cans a day plus some pasta and chicken breast. Jen simply couldn't have eaten that quantity and I was feeding every 2 hours when she first started eating. In fact she woyld eat the chicken and pasta and some of the RC but then leave it until I had fed her the rest - even then she didn't eat it all. I'm still feeding 3 times a day but just on normal food wuth her antibiotics mixed in. You could try smaller meals more often for Stanley and see if you can get more food into him that way; unfortunately we can't make them eat :( . I'm working at trying to get weight back on Jen as well - can't believe how quickly she lost weight :(

Yes when Red was on Hills i/d, I was amazed at the recommended quantity. Apart from the sheer amount, it’s really expensive and at that point I thought she was going to be on it for ever. I didn’t give her anything like the recommended amount.

I still use nearly a can a day to fill her kongs and freeze. She loves these.

Hope Stanley is ok - thinking of you and what a worrying time it is and that you have missed your holiday.

Commiserations with Stanley, @JenBainbridge; we've just been through a lesser version with Kipper, turns out a dose of antibiotics he had a few months ago knocked out his gut flora so he didn't have the levels of 'good bacteria' needed to keep it all working well. Live goats yoghurt and smaller more frequent meals has done the trick so far... (I'm going to try keffir that others have mentioned).

Hoping Stanley's feeling better today and it all settles down quickly x

    He’s ok thanks @charlie :)

He had me up a couple of times through the night with diarhoerea but he’s still quite bright.

OH took him for a little walk. It’s easy to forget how little energy he’s got. He’s had 2 walks this week of about half a mile each and no training and he’s just sleeping the days away with no fuss. He would normally be a Tasmanian devil at this point!

Your Tasmanian devil will be back soon. Dogs are just like us when we have been ill, no energy until we start eating again then all is back to normal. Rest is the best thing for Stanley right now. I know how hard it is for you, the worry is just awful. Take care of yourself too Jen. Sending lots of hugs to you all :hug::hug: xx
