Thanks all, just had our first encounter seeing another dog at the end of our streets... Bella refused to move from the spot and was trying to pull and jump forwards , I panicked and totally forgot about the jump park and just bent down and kept hold of her really tightly towards me whilst calling to the woman going past ...... I've managed to avoid all dogs up to now. Must remember the jump park!!!! Will try it tonight at home. Phew, stressful!!!!

So long as she stayed safe, that's all that matters. :)

Good idea to practice it though. Also really good also to do the same movement, because it becomes a 'might as well stand still then cue".

Good point, it just caught me off guard. She's going nice and steady on walks and the occasional crazy is halted by the halti! :) I'll be like the midnight walker lady!!!!!

Julie, did Charlie ever be sick after op? Second time today I've notified she's regurgitated her kong soggy biscuits... And not re eaten... Still drinking toileting and eating as normal... Will mention to vet Wednesday night just wondered if this is normal?! Gave her some more metacam tonight as she was struggling .

If she is vomiting after anti-inflammatory drugs, I'd phone the vet tomorrow.

Charlie had problem with metacam, yes. We ended up giving him Rimadyl. Anti-inflammatories can be rough on the tummy. Charlie did suffer and to be honest, ended up with a bit of a long term sensitive tum as a result.

The vet should be able to give you a different anti-inflammatory to try. But I don't know if you should keep giving the metacam or stop it, but your vet should be able to advise.

It isn't at all unusual with anti-inflammatory drugs, ideally you want her on something that agrees with her better, and perhaps some antacid tablets to help sooth her tum while she gets back to normal. In the worst case scenario, they can end up with ulcers (don't panic about that, it doesn't happen quickly, but do speak with your vet about what is best to do).

Thanks. We just had a slow ten minute walk and when we got back Bella was sick on the rug, phoned vet and they've told me not to give her any more metacam until we see them tomorrow night. Poor love , I see her pain when it wears off :(

Oh poor girl :( On the other hand, before I had my hip operation I was in a lot of pain and took a lot of ibuprofen, until I got a nasty stomach reaction to it - to be honest the pain and fright of that was as bad as the pain in my leg! So best to take her off the anti-inflammatory now, and get her something new tomorrow.

It won't be long until you see the vet. We had to try 3 different drugs until we found one that was better than the others (it still made him sick after 10 days of it though). It's a worry if they don't do well on anti-inflammatories, but the vet will give you something else, don't worry.

You could try icing her leg a bit more often? That really did seem to help Charlie.

Thanks. I has read to stop icing after 72 hours and start using heat, I was going to check it out with the vet tomorrow , the swelling has gone down but I haven't tried any heat yet until vet recommends it....

I didn't use heat, I read that too but my vet didn't recommend it so I didn't. But we iced his leg for about 10 days. The surgeon said it wouldn't do a lot of good after the first little while, but would do no harm. It definitely seemed to reduce swelling and make him move a bit better. But then, for all I really know it did nothing at all (all owners want to think what they do helps, but whether it does or not....who knows?).

Glad the first op went well and hope you can get sorted with suitable anti-inflammatories on your next vet visit.

Thanks for your kind messages. Bella has decided she will not go to the toilet at all in the garden anymore and we have to walk 2 minutes around the corner to her preferred area of Grass at the end of the close... Not so great at 7am , I wonder if she thinks , refuse and I'll get taken on a short walkies?! She doesn't seem to like my grass as it's all soggy but that's now extended to the patio and pebbles and now I'm not even going out there I'm standing my ground. Until you Take me out the front door...!

HaHa - Charlie hated going in the garden too. If you just wait them out, they go eventually. But they are also super desperate to get out on walks, so I usually didn't mind walking with him to the nearest lamppost. Bless them, it's tough, but it does end and normality returns, and they forget all about it. :)
