Hi All, My Labrador puppy, Zulu, is almost 8 weeks old. I know how much (weight wise) I need to feed my puppy, but I don’t know what the best times and methods are. I have only had Zulu for about 3 days and I have been feeding him 3-4 times a day (never more than his recommended daily intake). I have ONLY been feeding him from kongs, which I place in his bed (cage). Is the above correct? Cheers, Robbie
Re: Best way to feed your puppy When Molly was 8 weeks she was on 4 meals a day. I used to give her some in a bowl and use the rest for training (easy stuff) and in a treat ball or Kong. Still do the same at 6 months. She is ostensibly on 2 meals a day now. I do, however, give her a bowl of food just before I settle her down for the night. Hope it is going well for you.
Re: Best way to feed your puppy 3-4 meals a day is right for an 8 week old puppy. Feeding from a Kong only is totally fine And doing it in his crate is ideal, as that will help him to see it as a positive place. So, you're doing all the right things
Re: Best way to feed your puppy Four meals is probably kinder on his tummy than three at this age. You can drop down to three when he is around 12 weeks old. But it is fine to feed more frequently. Some people use the puppy's entire ration as training treats. And this is fine too.
Re: Best way to feed your puppy Mella has been on three meals a day from eight weeks, now 16 weeks, and is thriving. Has gone from 3.5KG then to 10Kg today and full of energy.
