Hi, Ive been looking at nice wicker baskets for dogs on e bay. I just wonderd when Otis can leave his crate? He is currently in a 30 inch crate. Otis is in his tenth week so still a young pup really. I wonderd if I would have to buy a bigger crate, or can he go straight to the basket ? Also, hiccups ! Otis does this a lot, hope its okay, he is fine and healthy, but he does hiccup a lot ! Back to the basket, I will have to wait till he stops chewing, as he would chew the basket to bits at the moment. THANKS, Maggiex

Pups seem to hiccup a lot. My first Lab hiccuped very frequently as a puppy but he grew out of it. Obi still has hiccups every few days even though he is 15 months. So, don't worry about the hiccuping :)

I would get a bigger crate :) Otis will probably stay in the chewy phase for some time and you will probably be grateful in future times that you still have the crate as a safe option for when you have to leave him for a few hours.

    Charlie hiccups all the time!

I bought Charlie a big grown up bed as soon as he grew out of his puppy bed. He loves it - it has sides, so he can snuggle up in a corner if he wants, but mostly he prefers to stretch out across the whole bed. But I don't use a crate apart from in the car. I have a play pen thing, which I kept small when Charlie first arrived, then I extended, and now it fences off a small room that is empty apart from Charlie's things. It works just like a massive crate really.

We use a playpen too. Babydan one. In it is Charlie's bed, the bottom half of an aircraft dog crate. She's nearly outgrown it now, so we'll be moving onto a plastic perla style bed, with a few fleece blankets in. As you say Julie, like a crate, but without the roof. Harry was a larger pup so got half the dining room, Charlie's a teeny tot by comparison so manages well in the square one instead. Of course the question is with this play pen, how come they sleep on the sofa....
