does anyone have any experience? I am currently away from home for Christmas. My mum has moved in to look after out puppy. She is 5 months and has had nothing but trouble. Her latest thing was discharge from her lady parts. She had a urine sample last week. Vet messaged me yesterday to say he wants her in for bloods when we get home as she has bilirubin in her urine. Any posts welcome. Can't be worse than my imagination.
I am so sorry to hear. I can't provide any info to help, except to say I hope nothing untoward comes from the blood tests and that your pup makes a speedy recovery from all her woes.
Well too much bilirubin in the urine can be a sign of liver disease for sure. BUT tests strips you dip in the urine aren't that accurate and can be falsely positive so until your puppy has a blood test you can't say anything for sure. Some humans naturally have high levels in urine and blood. Not sure about dogs. And certain drugs can raise your levels too. I wouldn't get too worried right now until you speak to your vet and get bloods done to be sure. Jac .
I don't have any experience, but just wanted to say completely understand how worried you must be - when you know something might be wrong but you don't know what, is always very stressful. With things like this, I always think getting to the vet as soon as possible, and getting all the tests done so you know exactly what you are dealing with (nothing or something) makes things a lot easier. Knowing what's what, so you can have a plan to deal with it is always better than wondering and imagining the worst! I hope you get some clarity soon.
It probably ISN'T as bad as your imagination. It's a fairly common problem that is easily managed and even fixed. Some liver support meds for a time and she may come right back to normal. I have read your posts and your Vet will likely be checking to see what conditions she's been through impact the liver. The blood test itself might be reassuring and show lower levels than the urine.
Thanks everyone. On our way home from Dubai today and she is booked in for tomorrow. Will keep you posted x
The vet thinks she has a shunt. She is booked in for bloods and possible CT scan on Thursday and repeat urine sample. Not really sure what it all involves yet or whether if is definitely that so if anyone has any experience!? X
