Found another bite mark in his neck. I first didn't notice it, but then I thought he had a tick. It happened to be a bite mark from the Danes other fang. It was not that big, but after I cleaned it, it started bleeding. My OH understands now what a fright it was for Finn and me for he couldn't imagine the extend of how big this Dane was The other wound was closed yesterday, but today it burst open again. So I started cleaning it again. Finn his ego has been damaged. He barks a lot when we are letting him out. Mostly on lead on the streets in town, in the woods without. He is suspicious to see other dogs and is on full alert. He goes with the dog walker with no problems. He likes to play with his normal playmates. I am afraid that Finn will get a fall back. He didn't and doesn't understand the dog language for he is brought up by the breeder. She did a good job, but he don't know when to stop whilst playing. He never had a mother who corrected him. He had other siblings, but that is not the same. I'll try to minimize the set back by going out as much as possible and start all over again with our positive training....

I am so sad to read this how awful for you. Fingers crossed that Finn recovers which I am sure he will. Funnily enough I was discussing the subject of dogs and owners with Mabel's hydrotherapist the other day, and we both came to the same opinion that so many owners are totally unable to read their dogs. I have stopped walking in certain areas now because of irresponsible owners. I also don't trust an owner when they say their dog is fine when they turn out not to be. Mabel has been attacked three times now, and she hasn't even had her second birthday. The worst was a collie who got her by the throats, she was 20 weeks old and the owner said I don't know what your problem is my dog doesn't have any teeth. Later on we met this woman and dog again and gave them a massive wide birth only to have the dog run at Mabel and go for again. I gave the woman a piece of my mind and checked Mabel over only to be told that it was all my fault and I was making a nervous dog that would be picked on by other dogs!!!
Poor boy I hope he heals soon X It's good that he still goes with the dog walker and his pals. Over time his positive experiences will outweigh this horrible negative xx
Ouf, that is nasty. Poor Finn, I hope this doesn't scare him off all giant breeds, they're generally the biggest teddy bears.
Poor little guy. I hope you and he both feel better very soon. For me the hardest part after being attacked by another dog is to find it in myself to go out again and not communicate my fear down the leash. I found it really hard to trust people again, especially when they said their dog "was really friendly" but clearly was showing body language towards my dog that was to the contrary. I don't think I did a very good job of overcoming it, so no advice from my side, just sympathy.
That's an awful wound, poor Finn. It must be very frightening being attacked. There was a little Frenchie in our park who got badly punctured by another dog in the park. Amazingly this little Frenchie recovered physically and emotionally and was so happy to play with all the other dogs in the park. Everyone thought she'd be terrified. I am sending all my best wishes that Finn recovers well. And you, too -- my husband told me the other day that he's lost his nerve to walk Snowie on a particularly favourite path of ours because Snowie was accosted by a Ridgeback (no bite marks thankfully). So my husband will only walk there if I come, too -- he's too afraid for Snowie if he takes him alone. @Pilatelover when people are defensive they often try to deflect the blame. So annoying!!
I can relay on this! I feel the same! My OH went walking on this spot where it all happened, but I still don't like going there. As a matter of fact it's my OH who lets Finn out. In our home town I wasn't afraid and did it myself, but here in the woods I have to start to regain my confidence! Finn has played with some known friends without problems and with my OH...
Here in the woods we encounter a lot of holiday making people. There is a big park where dogs are allowed to stay. Maximum of two dogs. I have heard several times that dogs have been fighting, most of the time bull dogs were to blame. Even my neighbor who helped me by searching a vet on call and went with me to help me, her dog (Berner Senner) was bitten a few weeks ago on the same spot by a bull terrier. I am blaming myself for not listening to my gut feeling and let them pass, without Finn off lead.... but I did...they told me afterwards that their dog would never have done this....and that it sounded cliché...
