I just plain don't understand this even though I'll accept it as fact .... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-More-black-dogs-without-homes-color-fur.html
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) I haven't read it as I'm not sure I can do sad this morning but I think it's one of the reasons that Jemima Harrison set up Black Retriever X Rescue, they can be found on Facebook and I think they have some stunning dogs.
off to find and like them straight away - thanks for sharing
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) I find it sad and upsetting that the colour of a dog can put people off wanting it , you`re right about Black Retriever X rescue Barbara , most of their dogs come over from Ireland where black dogs are discriminated against , makes me weep :'(
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) It's a fact, Black dogs are harder to rehome. I get a monthly news letter from the rescue centre we got Charlie from pleading with people to adopt black dogs as they are constantly overlooked and often spend many months if not years in kennels :'( It's a complete mystery to me and again, I just don't understand people at all. Breaks my heart :'(
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) Interesting to see that the Mail lifted the article direct from the NBC website and didn't even bother to change the spelling of 'color' to its correct form! Sad article though - I guess I can see why photos of black dogs on websites might get less attention, but it's honestly not something I had ever considered before... MMM, might you find yourself a second black dog before the week is out???! Clare

Clare
Oh I wish! But I know my health 'limitations' and it's one dog for us for the foreseeable. Sadly, I'd go for a black dog every time if I were to choose just by colour.

Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) Definately no joke, its a very sad fact of life indeed . I know that this is close to your heart Helen , Charlie was one of those poor souls I know xx
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) I'm from Ireland, saying black dogs are descriminated against in Ireland is a joke!
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) I'm led to believe partly due to the challenging economic climate in Ireland that dogs are suffering generally and it's been shown that black dogs are less likely to be selected from shelters. This means that if dogs are being abandoned more frequently overall the number of black dogs needing homes will be rocketing Hopefully no-one thinks the number of dogs in shelters anywhere of any colour is a joke.
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad)
I'm from Ireland, saying black dogs are descriminated against in Ireland is a joke!
My parents were Irish and never made "jokes" like that. This is a sad and serious subject and not one for any kind of "jokes" Kate, you are absolutely right about Charlie, and yes it's very close to my heart and extremely upsetting to me too think of any dog being stuck in a rescue home especially due to it's colour :'( Thank you as always for your kind and thoughful words xx
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) MMM , dont give it a seconds thought , you havent upset anyone, in fact its a good thing to highlight the plight of these sad dogs x
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) MMM please do not worry you most certainly DID NOT cause any upset, you raised a valid point about this serious situation and one that 99% of people will feel heartbroken for those poor dogs :'(
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) Could this be a regional thing? Here in North Northumberland there seem to be more black dogs than any other colour so it follows there would also be more in rescue. In our short street there are seven dogs, four are black labs, two black spaniel and the only non black dog is a jack russell. Similarly on our woodland walk this afternoon we met five labs and only one was yellow. Alice
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) Lots of black Labs in our part of Cornwall too, but as we are in the middle of a shooting area , this may have some bearing on it
Re: Black dog syndrome (sad) that's cos black labs rock 8) well so do yellow ones and the chocolate ones are pretty cool too.....I quite like a nice spanner......GSPs are pretty......and as for the mixed pups, you get some real stunners I just quite like dogs I suppose ;D
