We are in the process of choosing a new puppy. Mum is a yellow lab and dad is a chocolate but they produced beautiful litter of 11 black labs. However one of them in the litter has a white line down the chest. I have read this: https://www.thelabradorsite.com/black-lab-with-white-chest/ Also have been doing some other research but thought I should also ask on here if anyone has had any experience or could advise us if he could have any particular health issues? Or there is nothing to worry about?
I have recently brought a puppy home, and the man from whom we bought says my puppy is of pure breed (labrador), she has a white patch on her chest and white patch in her paws and slightly at her chin. So i am having a doubt whether she is pure breed?
There are no health issues linked to having white markings. You'll just need to make sure they parents have had the usual tests - clear eyes, no PRA, and good hips and elbows. While white marks aren't considered 'desirable' by the show community, they absolutely can still be found on pure bred and pedigree dogs
Our Fox Red purebred Lab has all the paperwork going and still has a little white whisp on his chest. Unless you’re planning on showing/competing I’ve not read that it matters.. However, as lucy@labforumHQ says, the health checks are the most important things to assure yourself of as well as being confident you’ve selected a reputable, registered breeder. Marks or not marks - they’ll love you the same. Good luck with picking your new pup!
I love Toby’s white flash and never considered it to be connected to health despite his problems. A little throw back photo to 2 years ago.
