Embrace it. Labradors are really bad for shedding. Hoover and groom regularly, there’s not much else that can be done!

I find it helpful to rub my dog over his body with a damp towel. Actually it’s after his swim and I find the drying with a towel takes off a lot of loose hair, and the hair sticks to the damp towel.

However, our house is full of Labrador hair. If you look too closely at the carpets, it can be quite revolting!! My advice is to match your decor with their fur color. :p Our floors and sofas are cream so you don’t see the white hair.

If it’s windy, the hair can blow everywhere. Vacuuming/sweeping often is really the only solution. The shedding is really bad twice a year: as summer comes in, and again before winter - as soon as the temps change, our boy starts to shed. Once the undercoat has done its shedding, things should be easier to control until the next seasonal change.

When my sister's child complained about dog hair in his food she told him, "That's because I love you the most, extra protein for you." :)

Hoover twice a day, groom with a gentle grooming brush once a day :)

You know it's bad when you go to a restaurant and find one of your dog's hairs on your food

Seriously though, labs shed A LOT. We had a pug first and I thought they shed a lot, then we got a black lab. What I found helped was a serious grooming (we're talking brushing, washing, conditioning, drying, brushing again over a course of 2 hours). We go to a self serve dog wash salon. We also regularly brush with a zoom groom and then a shedding blade. That being said, there is no physical possible way to prevent hair from getting around your house, things, items, couch, food, etc. Your best bet would be to consider paying an experienced groomer to routinely spend some serious grooming time on him plus daily brushing and vacuuming. We have a little robot vacuum to supplement our vacuuming!

I've learned to live with it. My lab is black and the hair doesn't seem so noticeable as yellow. He also doesn't have a 'moulting season', he sheds all year. It's my house and I love my dog, I Hoover and sweep to my standard, if others don't like it, they don't have to come to my house!

I have the same opinion as Lin - and I'm a "neat freak". I vacuum, sweep and mop daily, but, ultimately, there's tiny wisps of hairs I miss everywhere...if you don't like it, don't come to my house either. My dog lives here. "You're" just a visitor.

I don't find my own dogs' hair in my food gross. It doesn't taste of anything and it's not going to harm me. It's not like it's caked in it, we just get the odd one here and there. I have three Labs and only ever brush them a couple of times during seasonal moults. The rest of the time, it's daily vacuuming (which is a "blue" job) and we embrace the inevitable tumbleweeds.

I must be lucky, have had 2 black Labs and neither have shed much at all, my German Pointers were far worse. Rourke is having a wee moult now of his undercoat, but barely noticeable :)

Finn is nearing the hardest decision time, and I know I will wish he and his hair was still with us, so enjoy your dogs and to heck with any mess, they will be gone too soon!
