I am living in Delhi, India. My four month old puppy regularly does black stools. I have given him a praziquantel tablet as prescribed by the vet. Sometimes my puppy also vomits (happended twice last week). Is this ok?
Black stools can indicate blood, so I would definitely be taking an urgent trip to the vet. What did the vet say when he prescribed the medication? And, yes, please give some indication of his diet.
Hi Thank You for the responses. I am feeding him thrice a day. I have given him boiled meat occasionally. Otherwise I have also given him Milk, curd, pulses and bread. I have also given him royal canin puppy kibbles. The puppy is otherwise active, playful and normal however he is dong motions 4-5 times a day. He generally poops once or twice after each meal.
I would stop feeding milk as puppies can’t digest it (apart from their mother’s milk of course) and this might be part of the cause of loose stools. I would feed him just the puppy kibble, not bread or anything else, taking the amounts it says on the packet as a guideline as to quantity. This will make sure he has a balanced diet and it is less likely to upset his stomach.
If you give your puppy JUST the Royal Canin and no other food - no bread, pulses, chapati, curd, milk, NOTHING else - then this is the VERY best for him. He only needs kibble as this contains all the goodness and nutrients he needs. Feeding the other things is like feeding junk food to a child - even if he likes it, it isn't good for him. Royal Canin is a good food. All he needs. Little treats now and again are fine - especially cooked meat - but when he is little, just keep it to small amounts. As snowbunny says, very black stools can mean blood, and if he has been scavenging in the garbage as you suggested in your other post,, he may have eaten something bad, so you MUST talk to your vet about this.
