Hi, I’ve been debating asking this question, but what age people have put their puppies into boarding kennels

I think we first put Meg in at about a year, but she was not on her own as we had another dog . I think if your dog has chance to get used to the place slowly, it will ultimately depend on the dog. They are all so different.

I boarded Buster at 8 months for 10 days. It was in a facility in the country where he had his own crate at night and was not confined to a cage all day - lots of outdoors exercise and interaction with staff and other dogs. He did fine, came home happy and healthy.

Reason I have asked is I have to go to Scotland on business with mine and my husbands company for a few days.
Winnie will be 20 weeks old, the house border who I’ve signed up for for some dates in the summer is full. We’ve looked at dog friendly cottages but the nature if the trip would make that impossible to do.
I’m going to look at a kennels today, but I’m so aware of the stigma attached to boarding them so young.
The other option I have is the owner of our local pub who has 2 labs said she will have her.
    Please do not judge me.

I am a single dog parent living in a town where I know no one, and my friends and family are 1-2 hours away. On occasion, I had no choice but to board Sophie for certain things. She has been going to doggie daycare 2 days a week since she had completed all her puppy shots at 5 months I think. I board her at her daycare facility since that’s her second family.

I used to board her just for one night every other month as a pup to get her used to it. So one night at 4, and 6 months. At 7 months, I boarded her for vacation for 7 days and she did great.

Just make sure you find a good facility and ask lots of questions. Go see the kennels to ensure they are clean and read reviews. Also I would recommend asking what time is the last potty and morning potty if the place doesn’t have kennels where the dog can go outside on their own. Some places it’s 12 hours, that’s too long for a pup to hold it in my opinion.

I went to the kennels and was completely blown away by the cleanliness and the care the dogs get.The owners of the kennels put the dogs first. All kennels are heated, runs covered. There are 2 fenced paddocks for her to run around in with the other dogs. The dogs are out for the majority of the day, just in their kennels for breakfast, lunch & tea. First walk is 7am, then breakfast, rest, then outside with the owners till lunch, then the same in the afternoon and evening, last walk is 9pm & lights out are 10:30pm. They have said as she is 20 weeks old, she will get extra attention etc.
I can now go on the business trip knowing Winnie will be very well looked after and safe.
