Hey guys thought I'd give you a bit of an update on Bob... we took him to the vet yesterday and they are going to analyse his poos for bacterial infection. Today he's had the squits again but now seems to have blocked up completely. He keeps trying to 'go' but can't. His nose is dry and he's all lethargic. We won't get results on his tests until end of next week. Any suggestions as to what we can do to make him feel more comfortable in the meantime? I put water in with his rice & chicken but he's not really drinking much. Will try him with an ice-cube in a bit as well. Lou x
Re: Bob is still sick Poor Bob ;( Really feel for you as I have been there with Harley :'( Just keep giving him small amounts of stodgy rice and small bits of chicken every few hours. Harley didn't really drink when she was poorly, but was reassured by the vet that she wasn't dehydrated due to the rice. You could always give a scrambled egg as this did help Harley. Hope the vet comes back with some answers quickly x
Re: Bob is still sick Is he worse than when you took him to the vet yesterday ? If yes and he is no better tomorrow I'd give them a ring or take him in again. Did the vet give you any meds for him ? The only thing I can think of is to give him more rice and chicken very sloppy so he's getting fluid. At least then there is something to pass through if he needs to go rather than him trying and nothing happening. Poor little thing. :-\. Sorry I missed how this started but I'm assuming he hasn't eaten anything undigestable and there's no chance of an obstruction ?
Re: Bob is still sick I do hope he is ok, if he seems worse, do call the vet. Tuna flakes sink in water. If you mix tuna flakes in a bit of water (just 100ml or so) the water goes all fishy, and the flakes sink as the dog drinks, so they have to drink all the water to get to the flakes at the bottom. It workes with very finely shredded chicken too.
Re: Bob is still sick Poor Bob, hope he improves quickly. Have you tried making chicken stock and letting it cool? We have done that before, but also used to put it on dry kibble for our last old girl Lizzie to entice her to eat, wet kibble didn't entice her, the stock made a difference. You could mix some with the chicken-rice to make a soup like meal. Lou x
Re: Bob is still sick I mix Manuka honey in warm water to get them to drink, it never fails. Get well soon Bob xx
