Re: Born under an unlucky star... Yes, I'll definitely be asking if there's anything weird on her x-rays. One puppy on the forum broke 2 of her canines in one week (Amber, her parent responded in this thread on page 1) which reassured me a bit… and from the reading I've done, puppies that are quite chompy often break them as they are very brittle especially towards the end. Perhaps she had extra curvy or sharp edges on her canines - so they got caught extra easily? I'm honestly not sure. She's very sad right now, wandering around having a cry. I've been giving her ice cubes to help her mouth feel better. Edit: I'm doing more googling and it's really not uncommon to break off canines. Although a lot of people don't seem to take their puppies to the vet to get the roots extracted :/ which is a bit concerning. Just read an account of a pup breaking 2 canines, a puppy breaking 3/4 of her canines (a lab), and these people all seem to be doing nothing about it! Yikes. But at least this research confirms it is a very common thing to happen. I'm obviously going to take her in and deal with it. Perhaps it would be fine with a wait and see but there are so many risks it is important to me to get it out right away: "Therefore, a fractured deciduous tooth with pulp exposure requires extraction therapy as soon as possible. The wait and see approach in the 3-5 month old puppy may result in a draining fistula, osteomyelitis, or damage to the developing permanent teeth. Re: Born under an unlucky star... Poor lass.... Once you get it seen to all will be well and I'm sure her teeth will then be just fine.
Re: Born under an unlucky star... Well, hopefully this will be the last trip to the dentist for her for a long time. It's really good you are getting it dealt with.
Re: Born under an unlucky star... Surgery tomorrow! They're fitting us in since that top broken one is taking up big tooth space and she needs it out (even if it hadn't broken!). So that's good. Time to put all the toys away for another week or so...
Re: Born under an unlucky star... She's done! It was done super quickly, shes mych more alert already than she was, but grumbly from the meds. She can have toys and regular food - no need for the time without as they used a different method this time. They quoted just under $700 but it turned out to be only 460 split between boyfriend and I, so that wasn't bad at all! The vet also popped out a last baby tooth that was ready to go so that's nice. No follow up needed except antibiotics. They also were very nice to her there - one of the nurses was snuggling her until we were ready for her and the girl checking us out mentioned what a nice temperament she has.
Re: Born under an unlucky star... Bless her, so pleased its all over and done , so nice that the bill was less than you expected too, an added bonus x
Re: Born under an unlucky star... Oh and I forgot to mention, I asked about her teeth being unusually bad or anything at the appt and the vet said no, she didn't think so at all, that she broke them as she is such a goof and uses her teeth on things and is that type of pup! Haha. No vomiting here (like after the last one), she's basically herself again already, drinking, and eating (and whining for more), now having a nap on her bed.
Re: Born under an unlucky star... Glad it all went well. Hopefully that's the last she'll see of the vet for a long time
Re: Born under an unlucky star... so glad things went well for Maisie! Hope this is the end of her streak.... ;D ;D
