Are all lab puppies constantly famished? Edsel would eat continuously given the chance. I'm currently feeding him 1 cup puppy food three times daily. He also gets a few treats daily when we work on recall and some in his kong once or twice a day. But he acts starved. Will sit and stare into the room where his food is kept and bark until I have to put him in time out. Going to vet for check up and shots in the morning so will get an up to date weight. He's not chubby or thin, but I worry that he really is hungry or may need more food. Lori & Edsel
Re: Bottomless pit LOL.....I wouldn't be too worried. These Labs seem to have a bottomless pit where food is concerned, and the melting puppy dog expression to soften even the hardest heart! As long as the vet says his weight is good, etc, then you'll have to get used to the pleading looks, barks, and laments.
Re: Bottomless pit My boy constantly seems to be starving hungry - but it doesn't matter how much food he gets, it makes no difference.
Re: Bottomless pit HAHAHA don't worry i guess they would all eat to the point of explosion if we would let them ;D ;D ;D ;D
Re: Bottomless pit Yes, as far as I can see all labradors are totally ruled by their stomachs, and they don't have a 'Full Up' button!
Re: Bottomless pit Yes! I asked the same question. "Tatze is constantly hungry, should I give her more?" Of course, our trainer answered "no, labs are greedy, not hungry!"
Re: Bottomless pit i used to be the same with mine and but my trainer used to just tell me she's fine, as long as she passes the 'eye test' (see waist, can't see ribs clearly and can jsut feel them) then she's fine. I think the problem i had with her being my first dog was if she's whining/begging for food then she MUST be hungry and it was hard for me to understand that isn't always the case and sometimes she's just trying it on with me or possibly bored. On the bright side, i'm learning the Lab appetite makes them great to train with rewards and also good indicator if something is wrong when they refuse food.
Re: Bottomless pit I honestly think my dog always feel hungry. Genuinely hungry. The only thing that helps is telling myself he'd still be hungry if I feed him too much. Just fat and hungry instead of thin and hungry.
Re: Bottomless pit I think I must have an odd one. She likes food alright, but I wouldn't say she was obsessed. She gets more than 90% of her food in Buster Cubes, Kongs etc. When they are empty I just pick them up and put them in the cupboard, she just accepts it. It appears to be a case of out of sight, out of mind.
Re: Bottomless pit Most Labs are 'foodies' full stop. Just ensure that you are feeding the correct amount for the age of the pup, weigh it out for each meal. And feed at the same time for each meal, they will get to learn that once its gone... thats it

Had vet check and final shots this morning. Pronounced fit and happy. Weighed in at 10.5 kg which is up 3.6 in 4 weeks.
Re: Bottomless pit Penny has genuinely managed to convince me I hadn't fed her so she has ended up having 2 dinners on a couple of occasions!!
Re: Bottomless pit Charlie was vomiting and had the runs a couple of weeks ago - the vet wanted him to go onto a different food for a bit. I was discussing how much to feed with the vet, we looked at the back of the packet, which said 450g. No way, I said. No, said the vet, that would we way too much. I suggested 200g, and see how we went. The vet said "yes, but if he is still really hungry, give him a bit more". : : On that basis, I'd still be stood there feeding him! ;D ;D ;D
Re: Bottomless pit Yes to this post too! Our pup would have you believe she is starving We measure out the food each meal time to make sure - and we're upping it every week, or when we think she's looking a bit thin - she's quite lanky rather than a chunky lab. Just ordered her Junior bag of food, so we'll start mixing that in with her puppy food when it arrives
