Nothing much to add to what you have already been advised.
Just be super vigilant after play, food and sleep/rest, in fact after all of these scoop the pup up and take outside.
Suprising how quick they catch on, go over the top with the praise and reward, one piece of kibble for a wee and two for a poo ::)

We're definitely making progress! Now we regularly open the door and call Pongo to come outside. He (usually) gives us a long-suffering look, because clearly we are idiots, but then comes outside, looks us straight in the eye, squats and has a pee. Then comes over to get the reward. Then shrugs his shoulders and goes back inside. I can see the think-bubble over his head: "seems like a stupid game to me, but if it keeps them happy...."

We still have the occasional accident when over-excited, but the message is definitely getting through! Now we just need to get him to be more active about asking to go out when he needs to (rather than just humouring us!)

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement, forum...

    Rosie, Paul and Pongo

Tried to add a picture of him as my 'avatar' but couldn't get it to work. Can you give me some tips for how to add a photo?

I think there are a few ways.

I use flickr - open an account, upload photos to flickr then follow the instructions here:
    http://www.thelabradorforum.com/index.php?topic=1903.0

But I think there are loads of different ways, some others might be easier - I just found one way that worked for me and stuck to it!

Do try though, love to see pics of Pongo! And once you've figured it out, the forum is so much richer with lots of photos.
