Hi, I buy a Bravecto chewable tablet for Hunter from the vets every 3 months for fleas and ticks, and milprazon every month for worms. It's a bit of a hassle going there every month, and also expensive. I was wondering if there is something similar I can buy online without a prescription that is as effective as those two? We're in the UK. Thanks, Andrea
I don't use anything for fleas unless I see evidence of fleas ( flea dirt is easy to spot with a flea comb). Bravecto in particular is a neurotoxin with a poor safety record, and all spot-ons carry safety warnings about not letting children touch your dog so I pity the poor dogs. I used capstar and program ( online, no prescription) on my old dog on the couple of occasions she did have fleas, hasn't happened yet with this one. I have a tick removing tool but have never needed to use it. I don't give regular worming meds but send a sample off every 3 months to wormcount. This is more expensive than meds but worth it as I hate giving unnecessary medication. When he has had confirmed worms (twice now a year apart) I've used febendazole which is what's in panacur and one of the Bob Martin wormers, available in pets at home or online.
@Ruth Buckley pretty much has it there. These products are powerful medications and pesticides. Why put all of them over a dog, every month? Every pet owner needs to do their own research into their own dog's individual risk factors for various pests and then research which medications to use in order to minimise the dog's exposure whilst providing coverage.
