I have a jet black female Labrador but i want to know if i mate her with some other coloured lab which has a different coat, will the pups come out black/the other colour or what? Ps can you tell what kind of coat Bella(my ) has?
The genetics of colour are pretty interesting. In simplistic terms, each Labrador has three genes to determine colour; the colour of their coat (yellow, black or chocolate), and two hidden ones. Without a test, you can't tell what these hidden colours are, unless you can determine it from the dog's ancestry. There is a link on this page that shows you all the possible combinations: https://www.vetgen.com/chromagene-coat-color-a.html I am inferring, though, since you don't already know this, that you may not be hugely familiar with the breeding of dogs, in which case, I would urge you to read these articles in depth: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-breeding-should-you-let-your-dog-have-puppies/ The most important thing that must be done for both dog and bitch is health screening prior to breeding. The results must be satisfactory enough to proceed, or you risk having unhealthy puppies. This article explains more about that: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/health-screening-for-labrador-diseases/
When you do all the other health tests to ensure your girl will be a good candidate for having puppies, and complete whatever venues she is working it (conformation, hunt, rally, obedience etc., at least one) and join your local Lab club you can also do genetic testing (some of the health tests are genetic too) to see what colours she carries. Then you will know what the possibilities are but not the exactly which you will get or how many. Yes, as @snowbunny mentions above the sire needs the health tests too, and performance credentials. While the bitch owner generally has the choice of sire a reputable dog owner will not consider allowing a breeding with an untested bitch
