What shall I bring my puppy home in. Its an hour's journey so not too bad but want her to feel as secure as possible but also safe. What will make her feel most comfortable whilst enjoyable for the both of us?
We had a 45 minute drive home with Axel. I just put an old blanket on my lap and he slept on my lap the whole way home
Hi we had about an hours journey when we brought Bailey home. I sat in the back with him, initially on a blanket with a puppy pad on my lap. He was a nosy boy though and swapped between my lap and investigating the back seat. I held onto him and when he let me cuddled him. If you are going on your own then something not too big I would think with washable comfy blankets. Bailey howled most of the journey, between chewing on the seat belt fastening and me! However when we got home he was fine. After that we put a harness on him and an attachment that clips into the seat belt clip. He still wears this seat up today, although he hates the harness and will only wear it in the car! And yes I did the desensitisation on the harness but he just stands outside the car until we take his harness off now! Exciting times for you. Good luck
Do you have a passenger? With Willow, she went on the passenger's knee for a short while, then slept in the foot well for most of the four-hour journey. With Luna, we had a 6+ hour drive, so we used a pet carrier. We started off with it open, and she was so settled in it, that we left it like that for the whole journey. If he'd been a wriggler, we would have closed it up.
With Benson we had about 45 mins, we popped him into a small crate we used as a cat carrier. We had him in the back of the car, no problems at all. He was already used to car journeys. Bramble was 6+ hours. I sat in the back, Bramble was in cardboard box with a puppy pad and an old blanket. I dangled my hand in the box for comfort, but she slept most of the way
Hollys journey was a bit over two hours. She sat on some towels on my wife's lap on the back seat. We had poly bags, towels and paper in case of accidents but she snoozed all the way home. Good luck with your journey, and take lots of pictures!
I just cuddled Stanley and chatted to him. Telling him about his new little life. It was about an hour and we had no accidents. He whimpered a bit but as soon as we got home there was far too much stuff to be interested in to care
