    Re: Bump in spine

Back from the vets with pockets full of drugs.

Firstly I'm not imagining it - phew!! No crazy dog lady here ;)

Vet gave Riley a thorough going over and bump was the only problem. She thinks he's probably just pulled or tweaked something and it's causing the spine to have a bump. This is based on the fact the bump gets smaller or disappears in certain positions, the bump is also just after the rib cage ends and is apparently a common spot for strains to manifest themselves after the structure and support of the rib cage finishes.

She thinks it's unlikely to be anything sinister in a dog as young as Riley so we have some low dose muscle relaxants and some pain killers to give him on top of his worming tablets and spot on which were also due hence the rattling pockets full of drugs. If that doesn't sort it we may look at x-rays to get to the bottom of the problem.

He's got a sensitive tummy so I may hold off the painkiller unless it's obviously necessary. Oh and did I mention....restricted exercise! I swear he's in competition with Charlie for how much heelwork can one dog get through!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts and good wishes :*

I'm glad it went well at the vets Barbara.

Fingers crossed the drugs work and Riley is back to normal very soon.

Yep, your pockets might as well rattle rather than Riley...

Glad it looks like being straightforward, even if it does mean a period of restricted exercise. Erm, enjoy??! ???

I've been popping back to check Riley news all day! I swear I worry about forum dogs nearly as much as my own!

Maybe it's like a muscle knot that humans get in their backs too? My friend gets them and they are super hard and, well, knotty.

Hugs and licks from us. Restricted exercise is a pain in the bum! Much sympathy.

I clearly don't know enough about dogs anatomy but the bump itself is definitely his spine which has *probably* been distorted slightly by some soft tissue damage or strain.....

I asked about physio but the vet thought the muscle relaxant would probably sort it.

Thanks for checking up on us :D x

Well if he'd stop pouncing on any ball/toy/chew that he catches sight of we might

I'm going to need a puppy pen at this rate !!! *exasperated sigh*

He's finally settled down with some rawhide. The vet did say the diazapan (sp?) might make him drowsy - fat chance! Might just up his dose (only joking!)

Amy was limping for a few steps on our walk this morning. I thought "not you too Amy" but it settled down. I kept her on her lead just in case but seems ok.
