:'( My poor little Caddie has got quite a nasty injury to her hind leg. A blackthorn has penetrated her hock and caused severe swelling and a very high temperature. She is at the vets at the moment, they drained the abscess in her leg and I can go and pick her up later. I have already been warned that this will be a lengthy healing process. Alice had an abscess in her throat same time last year and that took weeks and weeks to heal and looked horrific for a long time so I am quite prepared. Feel so sorry for my little girl. Her shooting season is well and truly over.
Re: Caddie is injured How disappointing for Caddie, but thank heaven the shooting season is two thirds of the way through so she won't miss all that much. I hope she gets better very soon.
Re: Caddie is injured I'm always just happy to hear your dog us going to be ok. My digs 1st season was ended early by a cock pheasant claw puncturing her.
Re: Caddie is injured Oh bad luck Heidrun and poor caddie..do you think it might heal slightly quicker with it not being In a moist area?is that just my wishful thinking ?least you have experience of the treatment and recovery, Sending best wishes..you've had your share of incidents this season haven't you ? Angela x
Re: Caddie is injured It depends how much skin will break away, Angela. In Alice's case I was horrified that she had two gaping holes in her throat. It was horrendous to see, but now you can't feel a thing when you run your hand over her throat. I just hope that the infection will not migrate to the actual hock joint. That could be very serious in deed.
Re: Caddie is injured Sorry to hear this, Heidrun. Hope it stays away from the joint and that she heals quickly... Clare
Re: Caddie is injured So sorry to hear this - poor Caddie. I hope things are as well as they can be. Wishing her a speedy recovery. Hugs and licks from us.
Re: Caddie is injured That's not good news for you Heidrun. Not the best season for you at all. Get well wishes for Caddie poor girl xxx
Re: Caddie is injured Oh not another lame and wounded dog! Poor Caddie (and poor you). Hopefully she will be up and about again quickly but these sort of injuries are nasty. Much sympathy to you both from me and the labs.
Re: Caddie is injured Thank you all for your posts and good wishes. Caddie is back home with a drain in her leg and a cone on her head. I have to flush the wound twice a day and make sure Caddie stays nice and quiet in her cage. Back to the vets on Monday for a check up. Jacqui, it has been a difficult season for me, first my accident and now this, but I have also had some amazing high points. Ziggy's field trial win and also seeing my husband work Alice and Caddie and even taking Murffi beating. That was great to watch. ;D
Re: Caddie is injured Poor, poor Caddie. Glad you can still look to the positives which there have been MANY Get well soon Caddie. Sending BIG {{hugs}} to you xx
Re: Caddie is injured Oh no, I hope Caddie recovers quickly, let's hope 2014 is a better year for you xx
Re: Caddie is injured I am really sorry Heidrun. I had no idea blackthorn was such a problem. I am sending poor little Caddie all positive vibes for a speedy recovery. Luckily she is a tough and plucky little dog and hopefully will be back to full health soon. Xx
Re: Caddie is injured poor caddie, i am wishing her a speedy recovery with lots of licks from puzzle and barley
Re: Caddie is injured Hope Caddie heals quickly with no problems. Blackthorns are horrid things! A GSD I had years ago managed to puncture his eye ball with one, he was lucky I noticed a blue spot on his pupil and took him to the vet, apparently if it had been left another day or two he would have lost his sight in that eye.
Re: Caddie is injured Thanks everyone. Blackthorn seems to have it in for my dogs. Alice scratched her eye three years ago on blackthorn and needed a corneal graft to save the eye and last year she had a huge abscess in her throat caused by blackthorn and now it got poor Caddie.
Re: Caddie is injured Poor little caddie. That blackthorn sounds nasty stuff . I hope she gets better really soon
