Re: Caddie is injured Yeesh so sorry to hear this, Heidrun. Here's hoping the infection clears soon. Hugs and licks from us too.
Re: Caddie is injured She is much brighter, thank you for asking. There is still a little bit of swelling in the hock but that could be due to the drain the vet has put in. It runs straight through her leg and I have to flush it through with antibiotics twice daily. She is also on strong oral ABs and painkillers for some time to come. It all depends how much of the skin is going to slough off. I have seen this with Alice's abscess, in her case the skin loss was quite dramatic. Back to the vets tomorrow, but so far so good.

Re: Caddie is injured Glad to hear that things sound positive. We don't have blackthorn here - are they really small thorns that you don't notice which get buried and cause the infection?
Re: Caddie is injured
Glad to hear that things sound positive. We don't have blackthorn here - are they really small thorns that you don't notice which get buried and cause the infection?
They are not particularly small but they tend to break off as soon as they have penetrated the skin leaving the tip oif the thorn behind causing very painful infections and ulcerations and sometimes huge abscesses.
Re: Caddie is injured How are you managing Caddie, Heidrun? In terms of crate and cones and things, and how she is coping?
Re: Caddie is injured Julie, she is doing really well. Wearing the cone and being crated was difficult, she couldn't quite work out how to turn around without bumping the cone. I only kept her crated for a couple of days. Now she is still wearing he cone but sleeping in her own bed. When I take her outside for toilet breaks I take the cone off because she likes to sniff the ground and find the right place to go to the loo, with the cone on that is quite difficult. But otherwise she has resigned herself to wearing it and has adapted really well. Even though she is very high octane when out and about Caddie has an off switch in the house. It makes life in these sort of situations a lot easier.
