I keep hearing about "cage training". What exactly is it and what are the benefits and why do you need it? Mella is very happy in her little bed and when we start going in the car the bed will come with us.
Re: Cage training Cage training is getting your dog to use a cage to sometimes sleep, or have quiet time or for most, myself included, a safe place when they are left home alone. Being in a cage can reduce their anxiety of being left alone in large spaces, reduce the risk of chewing/destroying things, and make them feel safe. Hope this gives you a general idea
Re: Cage training I prefer the term "crate" training, though this might be an attempt at sugar-coating! A very valuable resource if you are not at home all the time, and can't have your eyes peeled 24/7 Lilly had her crate, which was covered in a blanket, as her haven, her cave almost, and used it until she was almost 3 years old when we dismantled it so we could get more space back in our kitchen. She missed it for a week or so, but is still happy to go back in on holiday etc. There is some information on the main site, and this is a good place to start..... http://www.thelabradorsite.com/crate-training-your-labrador-puppy/ jac
Re: Cage training Getting your dog to feel comfortable in a crate also makes stays at the vet a lot less stressful for the dog and prepares them should they even need to travel anywhere by air
