I don't know if there is a seesaw to be honest Stacia,I kind of just said that as a figure of speech :D maybe if you found it tricky it's more advanced so there might not be?lets see...he's got to go for an assessment on Sunday ??? Again! ::) even though he 'so had one when he did his first lot of obedience lessons there.....maybe that's why :-[ possibly they remember the rambunctious Labrador pup throwing himself round the training hall in desperation to get to everybody else's tastier treats :-[ :-[ :-[

Great news Angela you and Dex will have great fun. ;D

You'll have to mention it to any dog owners you get in to conversation with when your out with dexter. Then again if your the only one dexter will be a champion in no time. ;)

I hope you realise Angela that you have to be very fit to keep up with a fit young dog on an agility course ;D. I nearly gave myself a heart attack trying to keep up with super, super fast Charlie and there was just no way I could, needed oxygen by the time I made it round ;D, Charlie was round the course in a flash waiting for me at the end  Have fun!! xxx

You can do it, I am quite a bit older than you Angela, so if I can ….. Dexter will take time to get used to what is expected of him but he will get the hang of it. I don't go any more as life took over. Enjoy, enjoy, I can't wait to hear how you get on :) :)

Agility is huge at our dog club, and, believe me, many of the handlers couldn't run two paces :) You'll be fine.

One thing you can start teaching him is to touch a target with his paw. You can use a coaster or similar (I use a square of painted timber....mine is white but something striped blue and yellow would be better for agility so it stands out on a variety of backgrounds). You can use this later to train him to touch contact points on the obstacles.

You will have a BALL!!!! :D

Great tip Rachael ,thankyou I'll get onto that .....got builders coming in tomorrow to replace some skirtings ( not due to chewing I hasten to add ;D) so that can be something to keep him occupied for a bit x

    Re: Cannot contain myself.....

Been for our assessment today to see if we can be accepted onto the Beginners Agility Course ;D
We passed meeting and interacting with other dogs with flying colours.Paws Pet Planet was being decorated so the assessment was conducted in the empty room that some of the big dogs board in.......goodness,when Dexter finally stopped trying to help himself to all the open boxes of dogs food, he realised that all the dogs treats were kept in open pigeon holes in the other side of the room so took himself off over there to help himself to some rawhide chews and something that looked like a caramel flavored bone ::) our Leave It was non existent :-[. Our Sit and Stay was ambivalent at best......we looked a mess :-[! In truth I was expecting this...Dexter is proofed in the house ,the garden and in the park/on walks,he doesn't go anywhere else because he isn't allowed anywhere else so we haven't had a chance to behave well anywhere else :-[ the training centre is going to be a challenge.Should we be better than this?the trainer was very good and said I'm not the only one and that the first week we will work on obedience with distractions.
Rachael I started training to touch a blue plastic coaster yesterday,so hopefully we will get that in time to start x

    Re: Cannot contain myself.....

Well if they will leave treats out who can blame Dexter for a little thievery ;D I think as Dexter doesn't get to go to many new places he did well and you have been accepted :D The trainers will expect all new dogs to be a little frisky fo a few weeks as they get used to their new surroundings, so don't worry. Keep up the good work with the 'touch' object as this will be important but not for a little while. When I took Charlie it was outside in an arena in the middle of the Hampshire countryside so too many wildlife distractions on the horizon and really I hadn't got him to a place where he was old enough and behaved enough to cope round so many dogs and new distractions, so it was my fault he barked all the way through it and couldn't sit still :(, so you are lucky you have an indoors facility but obviously an outdoor one is out of the question with the heat  When you go next week don't stress out, relax and he will definitely surprise you with his eagerness and ability to learn new skills, even Charlie did and he was pretty amazing at it :D Well done Angela
    and Dexter xxx

All that temptation ! Poor dexter you can't blame him for thinking it was a help yourself pick and mix display.

Don't blame yourself it would take a saint of a dog to not react in a new environment with lots if exciting new smells, people and dogs, not to mention the food. ::) especially an inquisitive young lad like dexter.. Not that im saying dexter isn't a saint. ;)

He will settle down when he gets used to it and you'll both have a great time. It will be good for him aswell all the new experiences so don't stress if it goes a bit pear shaped the first week or even the second. Its a learning experience and as I've been told by the vet about Scott and Scout, they will have delt with dogs who've behaved a lot worse.

I bet he's really good and you'll have been worrying about nothing.

    Have fun

    Jen :D

I don't think so - I don't think a young dog can be good unless they have had loads of opportunities. Charlie is an absolute nut case anywhere new. The basics sometimes work (thank goodness for small mercies), but he can't contain his excitement for more than a few seconds, and has definitely not generalised that calm behaviour is expected even when his surroundings change!
