Although Susie has been in a car a few times - transport from breeder to home, home to vets for immunisation and back - these trips were with her on my wife's lap in the car.
I tried once with her in crate on back seat with me chatting to her as I drove a short distance to walking area - not much more than about a mile. She lay down in crate and seemed perfectly happy as far as I could tell. However, after a walk, she wouldn't go back in even when tempted by treats. I had no choice but to place her in crate. Since then if I walk with her towards the car, all four brakes go on! She just does not want to go in.
I assume I made a mistake but I don't know what. More to the point, how do I reverse it? Willingness to travel in a car is a must.

I should add that as far as the crate in the kitchen is concerned, she didn't need any encouragement to treat that as her den. Even at about 14 weeks, "Go to your room" has the desired effect, she goes straight in and lies down. Even if I close the gate for 10 - 15 minutes while cooking for example, it doesn't bother her.
