I wanted to put the full description in the title but I just couldnt. I feel bad enough posting a photo. The area around Harley's vagina is darkening. The morning it seemed even darker than before. Is this normal for a yellow lab? Or is she starting to come into season? She is 5 and a half months old. She doesn't appear to be in discomfort when urinating.
Is she itchy? Does she lick the area? A color change like that can indicate that the dog licks there a lot. If licking, need to find out why. Allergies? Infection? Snowie has areas of discoloration like that from licking. Sadly his allergies. I need add though that this might be entirely normal with girl dogs - I only know boys!
Jura is much darker there too, and I seem to remember the colour change happened at around 6 months as I wondered if it was linked to her coming into season too. In the end she didn't come into season until she was 9 months, and she is still much darker around her vulva area now at nearly 2 years old.
I have noticed that a lot of yellow girlies are naturally much darker in that area. In fact at Crufts, all the girlies were very dark. I suspect it is perfectly normal. I am sure our members with yellow girls will chip in.
I don't know about Labs (I say that here so often it should be tattooed on my forehead), but I've known quite a few faun chihuahua girls, and their bits looked just liked this, albeit muuuuuuch smaller.
She doesn't lick noticeably at all. It doesn't appear to be itchy. When we were at the vet last week he had a look at her skin to check if there was any redness or irritation in the "usual" areas such as tummy, skin on the paws, ears and he doesn't see anything concerning, in fact her skin in not red anywhere. She was climbing over DH this morning to get to his other side in bed and you know what clowns labs are, so she slid and half fell over him and I noticed that the hair is much darker. Thank you to everyone for the responses, I will keep an eye on her but if it is normal pigmentation then that's fine. I am sure she is having a hormonal shift at about this age.
