Thanks Julie....if you feel that way about it,I feel better ;D my reading on it wasn't exhaustive but it gave me confidence that it wasn't dreadful.my vet sells several brands ,which are popular in several countries which I like.Dubai is such a melting pot of different nationalities that in looking up some of the other brands they stock,I feel they are stocking/ promoting good quality brands familiar to many of their clients...anyway off on a tangent, hope Charlie is better soon x

Hope you come to a solution on this, Julie! It does seem like that the bowl feeding could have something to do with it, seems strange that the upset occurs when he eats from a bowl. ???

Good luck with the food trials, I know I didn't do so well when I tried my switcheroo, hopefully Charlie will handle it better! :)

Hi Julie, good to know there's nothing to worry about. I've just put megs on fish4dogs. I find it really good, no more flatulence (I can breathe at night now :)) and her poo is a lot firmer, plus she was scratching and that's stopped. I'd never heard of raw diet when megs was younger, she had
ready brek or weetabix with semi skimmed milk for breakfast when she was a pup and young girl.

Your vet sounds as if he was very thorough. Hope Charlie gets well soon.

Sounds like your vet is getting things back on track though.
    Good old Zantac.
Glad he didn't try to get you on the doggy Gaviscon though - we had to back Lilly into a corner and squeeze it through gritted teeth.

Keep us up to date. Poor Charlie.

He seems fine - for now, anyway. We'll see tomorrow morning. The RC food the vet gave me is called sensitivity control and it's duck and tapioca - the leaflet says that the ingredients are the least likely to cause digestive troubles - and I can switch to it immediately without the usual slow change over. It also says I can have my money back if my dog reacts to it or just doesn't like it.

    Hope he is ok soon.

I've got a friend with a Border Collie who can only eat RC Sensitive. Chucks up absolutely everything else. So hopefully it will help soothe Charlie's tum too :)

My old lab was on royal canin sensitivity for the last 5 years of his life. He'd suffered with bouts of colitis nearly all his life upto then. In those last 5 years he didn't get one upset tummy. That was bordering on a miracle so I can definitely reccomend it. It does what it says on the tin. ;)

    Sick again today. :(

The new food is producing perfect poo - very firm, good colour, and no smell. ::)

He seems perfectly fine in himself. Starving hungry (as always) and full of beans (as always).

OH took the poo sample to the vet today - at last. ::)

Today, he was sick on his lead walk, 50 minutes after eating 50g of new kibble from a kong wobbler.

If it's not a bug (few days to find out), then the only thing left to rule out is the change from chewable tablets to capsule form joint supplements. Seems a bit unlikely. :-\. But we'll open the capsules tomorrow and feed them on a scrap of sardine (cutting out the bit of cheese too). ::) ::) ::)

It's just so strange. If it were a bug, poo would not be normal?

Well, doing everything vet recommends. Will check for bug via poo analysis and cut out capsules. If those two things don't do the trick, we'll be back at the vet.

At least we're back below 28kgs. He is looking super, super slim - he says that he is a labrador size zero now! ;D ;D ;D

He is not on any medication apart from fish oil joint supplements, which he has been on for 12 weeks without problem (and previously a much higher dose). The only change has been from giving these in chewable tablet form to giving these in capsule form. But he has had capsule form medication before without problem. Anyway, we opened the capsule this morning and poured the powder on a bit of sardine instead of wrapping the capsule in cheese.

    It is just odd. :-\

    Re: Charlie being sick

I was just wondering Julie as some patients with lactose intolerance or wheat intolerance find a switch between tablets and capsules can upset them. There can be a lot of "fillers" in medicines. A long shot....

    Re: Charlie being sick

Maybe that is it then. He is fine this morning without the capsule, so maybe it's as simple as that?

I don't think he has a wheat or lactose intolerance. We often used cheese as high value treats. It is true that there has been a change in poo (for the better) with a switch away from chicken and rice/maize, to duck and tapioca based food though. His poos weren't ever bad, but are very much smaller and harder with the new food. So, maybe.
