Thank you all so much for your concern about Charlie, you have no idea how much I appreciate it. Update. Charlie has not managed to wee/poo or even drink since yesterday afternoon, he has been shivering and puffing his cheeks out. We took Charlie in to the vet at 9.00 am where he was checked over again by the senior vet (owner) she was not happy at all as she knows Charlie well. He has a temperature and is completely flat. He was sedated whilst we were with him and taken straight in to be scoped. We have just had a phone call and it's awful. He has somehow run onto a stick which has made a very deep hole in the back of his throat, she said he was lucky not to have killed himself. He is on IV fluids and ABs and will have X-rays and a CT scan first thing tomorrow morning to access the full damage. As Charlie is not a stick picking up dog they do think he was running, the stick/branch was sticking out of the ground at his mouth level, he didn't see it and he effectively was stabbed, his tongue was bleeding too. We are so very worried and terribly upset. I am crying typing this to you all. xxxxx

Oh Helen,my tummy has turned over reading this, you must be beside yourself xxx Thank goodness you've got him treatment ,you know exactly what he has done and he's on proper meds so keep all of that in mind whilst you are waiting for the scans ,it probably won't help you not to worry but prompt action has given him the best chance. What a freak accident ,in thinking of you all, I hope there's no more bad news for you tomorrow x

Oh Helen, this is such a terrible shock. He is in the right place and will be getting all the care he needs. You must be distraught. Fingers and paws crossed here for Charlie xx
David just told me the vet said if there is any debris in the hole it's serious as these can move to the spinal chord and he would be in serious trouble. If so he will need to have the hole cleaned out. Only the X-Ray will tell us that. A freak accident to happen to a dog that doesn't like sticks, I guess it was sticking out from a tree at just the wrong angle and he didn't see it. He's lucky to be alive. Thank you everyone for your kind wishes for us and Charlie xxx
Oh no, poor Charlie. I will keep everything crossed that there isn't any debris. I can only imagine what you and your family are going through. sending you all big hugs xx
